October WIP Challenge Check-In, Day 17--Toot Your Horn Sunday

Hello, writers! It's time to sound off on what we've accomplished so far in this challenge. Can you believe how fast October has been going? Feels like this month has been on skates. For those who don't know me, I'm Witch. I'm going to be your check-in host for the challenge over the next two weeks. I've been looking forward to this, y'all!

Here are our discussion prompts:

-Name one thing you're happy about with your fic and/or the fic writing process so far.

-Share something you're proud of that you accomplished. Have you thought about your fic more than you had? Did you put something on the page no matter how short? Did you finish your outline or a first draft? Whether it's a big or small achievement, toot your horn!

-What do you have planned for this week in the October WIP challenge? Are you taking time off from writing? Pivoting to another part of your process? What are your goals for the week?

The October challenge hasn't been going so hot for me, but I am happy that I stepped back from my fic last week. That's an important part of the writing process that I've always struggled with. Not the stepping back part but making sure that I don't see it as a defeat or use it as an excuse to stop trying just because I'm frustrated.

Life happened. It set me back a lot. Time to figure out next steps and look at what I'm capable of accomplishing in the rest of the month and adjust. This week, I'm going to do something else that I struggle with lol. I'm going to skip a portion of my fic I'm unsure of and write beyond it. I prefer to write in the order my fic is told in but considering I've been stuck for like two weeks, time to try something different.

Yesterday I realized there was little left I could accomplish without actually moving stuff from one place to the other. So I sat down and wrote. And here comes some more today. Seize every moment.

I'm a bit discombobulated by a busy week and being under the weather as well, so I am trying to start fresh on my WIP that seems to not want to be written. I may try the writing ahead trick and see if I can come back to the ornery part later.

On a happier note, I have written a lot of words this week but they are mostly journaling words and not WIP words!

October has gone WAY too fast so far. It's my favorite (because I am all about Halloween), but I can't believe it's more than half gone!

I am proud that last week I got the last chapter of a fic posted! It's the first multi-chapter fic I've completed in a while, and that felt really good!

For this week, I'm starting on another multi-chap-but-not-too-long fic. This one is hopefully a good one for spooky season, since it's a vampire/monster hunter AU. :)

It sounds like stepping back was the right thing to do - sometimes you have to.

I'm the same way you are, where I have a very hard time writing out of order. I hope it helps unstick you!

I'm not progressing with my wips the rate i wanted to but i'm progressing.
On the other hand, i wrote a first draft for a fic for a new fandom in one sitting because nothing is as inspiring for other fics than having to work on this wip.

I hope you're feeling better. I agree with mistressofmuses sentiment, words are words. Writing got done, and it made you happy! Wishing you luck with your WIP, I hope skipping ahead works for you.

Congratulations on finishing a multi-chapter fic! Exciting! And now you're on to the next one. What fandom are you writing the vampire/monster hunter AU for?

lol I feel you. The minute you end up fighting with one WIP, a plot bunny appears to tell you that another WIP to focus on will be better and less frustrating. Still, writing is writing, so it's still a win.

Hahaha, sometimes there is something very freeing in [tense conversation: figure it out later] and [they get from point A to point B - research train routes in 1943 later]. Good luck!

Kingdom Hearts, haha. Despite having lost track of what's happening with that canon in the last decade, my brain has stayed latched onto some fave characters. So I write a lot of AUs, lol.

Oh cool! Is it gen or is there a pairing? Haha I don't think even the writers of Kingdom Hearts know their own story at this point. It is all over the place.

It's my OT3 - Sora/Riku/Kairi, though the fic will probably stay rated T. Those characters/that ship are what latched onto my fic-writing brain, haha.

Though no argument from me - the whole plot went off the rails HARD. I've tried to read wikis and get lore explanations, and the whole thing just seems bonkers now!
