Discussion: do you set a word count for your fic or do you aim for a stopping point?

I've been working on something for one of my summer mini challenge prompts, in a new fandom tooand have just stopped for the day. I only use word count when there's a specific one set for a challenge or an exchange.

I was too busy with holiday guests yesterday to spend any time on my writing. Today is also busy but I am planning on making some writing time happen!

I go by word count when I a fic calls for a specific word count, otherwise I let it stop when it wants to!
