Getting this done now because I'm on nights from tonight for the rest of the week and I'll try to post when I get home from my shifts.

How is the writing going today?

Discussion: Do you have a preferred time of day to write?

I have not been able to get time for writing the last couple of days due to work busyness. I am hoping to at least do some research for an article today!
My best time for writing is in the morning, when I am usually working from home. Afternoons work on some days when I have the whole day at home, but mornings are best.

I prefer the morning so I have a better chance at a long writing session, but inspiration usually strikes me at night. I’m very much a morning person, so this can be quite frustrating.

I think a little bit of grogginess really helps the words flow for me. Still trying to figure out how to manage that.

Not really a morning person, but I have an early-rising job and have similar problems with inspiration striking at night. I don’t think I’ve figured out a way to deal with it yet!

The worst! I guess the options are to ignore the inspiration, indulge at the expense of being fully functional at work, set a timer/limit, find a way to write faster, or jot down ideas to expand later. Not optimal.

I can write almost any time if I can find a way to get started! The first 5-10 minutes of a session are always the hardest for me and when I’m most likely to quit. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon work for more measured writing, whereas later at night I find I give myself more permission to be dramatic.

Honestly. Getting started is the biggest problem I have. Once I get going I can usually go for a bit w/o really having trouble but it's the first like 10 minutes of a session where I feel like it's a struggle.

My most productive writing sessions tend to be mid-morning/early afternoon. Which means I tend to only write on days off work because my work shift is usually somewhere between 9 AM and 8 PM depending on my schedule. If I can get started early, I can usually block out a good chunk of time and get a lot of writing done, but if not, I tend to feel like it's too late to start. Which is silly. I miss my college days when I could stay up writing until 4 AM, go to a 9 AM class and still power through the day.

Usually I write best either in the morning (as soon as I wake up) or in the very asscrack of night (loooong after I should have gone to bed), and no inbetween.

This is so relatable. Sleep is really holding down the normalcy fort.

I found some 10-year-old fics last night that I had never posted to AO3, so I was planning to spend my day editing/rewriting and posting them.

Halfway through that, my computer decided it's going to randomly shut down on me.

So, y'know, got that going for me.

Honestly, the best writing time I've ever found was the dead of night during my time working graveyard. It matches my natural rhythms and energy and comes with almost 0 interruptions. One day, I hope to get back to that....
