Hey everyone! Sorry this post is so late, I got distracted by the shiny of new blogs...
How is the writing coming along today? Are you
- writing?
- editing?
- researching?
- betaing?
- taking a break?
Discussion topic:
What do you do when you just don't seem to have any inspiration at all? Do you just accept it, or do you have some clever tactic to find new inspiration?

Date: Sunday, November 20th, 2011 20:02 (UTC)I don't really have any strategies for overcoming lack of inspiration, which kind of sucks because it means that I finish maybe one fic per year. Sometimes putting myself into boring situations without internet access helps (for instance, traveling somewhere by bus or train), but all too often that just results in me daydreaming for a few hours.

Date: Sunday, November 20th, 2011 21:39 (UTC)So... this discussion topic is v. relevant to me! I was inspired by getting a Natsume Yuujinchou fic as my main gift in the Kaleidoscope exchange, which kickstarted me into writing snippets of my favorite characters. But in general when I don't have inspiration... I try to just give myself some time to have a bit of a break. I do think writing every day in 750 Words, even if I don't write fic in it, has helped, because it means that my brain is used to writing, is kind of... constantly warmed up? So when ideas do come up, I think my brain knows they're welcome & will hopefully get to be written down. & when I do have a dry spell, it seems easier to break out of it.
Sometimes I try to do something new that might jar ideas loose -- go to an interesting-sounding event (especially if it's something I wouldn't normally go to) or even just try walking home a new way. ^^;;

I generally write on my laptop. If I'm uninspired and want to continue with something I've already started, I'll write out a paragraph or two in long-hand and continue from there. There's something about switching from using a keyboard to using a pen that helps unlock my inspiration.
And when I dry up again, I'll type up what I've written out and carry on with it, typing.
