I remembered my rhyme-pair: "provided" and "glided" :-D

And I'm actually very pleased with the result, given that I had to fit into the metre not only a reference to a skull-and-crossbones flag but also the famous oath by a thousand devils (in this case plus inflation!)

Two whole months of boredom, then fog where some unknown sail glided
And see! on their flag there, a skull and two bones that are crossed.
"Oho," cried our captain, "again Lady Luck has provided --
"They're pirates, by ten thousand devils! Now all hands aloft!"

Now I have to find a rhyme for "sentenced to the galleys" :-p
