We've had one whole week of 2026 (and I haven't yet had to write the new date once). Has anyone succeeded in writing today?
Question of the day: when dealing with your character's inner monologue, do you tend to favour writing directly reported thoughts (What an idiot, she thought) or indirect thoughts (He was just such an idiot)?

Date: Thursday, January 8th, 2026 03:40 (UTC)And I fixed my perceived shipping problem with the last line by shifting the word "embrace" from a noun to a verb, which I hope will makes fans less likely to take it as being a coded sexual reference. (It had ceased to be a marvelling thought, and begun
to take on the casual certainty of an embraceto embrace the casual certainty of belief.)I think I tend to write indirect thoughts, although I've definitely got at least one case of directly reported thoughts in this story, which I wondered about italicizing and decided not to.
