We've had one whole week of 2026 (and I haven't yet had to write the new date once). Has anyone succeeded in writing today?

Question of the day: when dealing with your character's inner monologue, do you tend to favour writing directly reported thoughts (What an idiot, she thought) or indirect thoughts (He was just such an idiot)?

I finished proofreading/editing my one-shot, which underwent an unexpected eleventh-hour name change as a result; I'd assumed all along it was going to be called "Night Watch", but ended up calling it "The Four of Us Together", which has fewer Rembrandt/Pratchett overtones and refers to the theme rather than the subject of the story (an interesting distinction!)

And I fixed my perceived shipping problem with the last line by shifting the word "embrace" from a noun to a verb, which I hope will makes fans less likely to take it as being a coded sexual reference. (It had ceased to be a marvelling thought, and begun to take on the casual certainty of an embrace to embrace the casual certainty of belief.)

I think I tend to write indirect thoughts, although I've definitely got at least one case of directly reported thoughts in this story, which I wondered about italicizing and decided not to.

Haven't really gotten very far with writing fic, though I did finish up some non-fic writing I had to do.

I tend to write directly reported thoughts, but I have used the indirect method as well.
