Still struggling w/the eastasianfandomgiftbag ficlet. I've been super unproductive all evening; just getting 750 Words done for the day was all uphill! At least they were words for this ficlet, but... uggggggh.

Sometimes a fic just feels done to me, especially if it feels done & then I find a title that just clicks. I do worry that I'll get stuck editing a fic into oblivion, though. Sometimes I feel like I post a fic less because it feels done & more because I feel sick of looking at it. I don't do that too often, though: I'll make myself put the fic away for a few days first, so I can come back to it fresh.

My fic usually counts as done when the deadline for the challenge its for comes up! On the few occasions that the fic hasn't been for a challenge its done when I feel Ive done all I can and solved any problems and the beta reader has a good reaction to it.

Perhaps thats my present posting issue. I'm not writing to a deadline so it doesn't get posted.

Meanwhile 750w is letting me generate prose. At 800-1000 w a day this will total half a Nanos'worth by the end of the month. I'm not entirely sure that this is wise, given the editing job its generating, but I'll try to work on that too as I go along.

I write most of my fics not for a deadline (& do manage to post fic once in a while!), but oddly this past year I discovered that a deadline far in the future (poetry_fiction has a really long amnesty period) made me put off the fic for ages. But more usual lengths of deadlines (Yuletide, Kaleidoscope), I don't procrastinate! Weird.

All those words can't be a bad thing! :D Yay!!

I want it to be Wednesday already so I can get back to my fics. Been too tired after I've left mum & Brian at the hotel before coming home and taking to my bed.

Had a bit of a tangent idea for a ficlet yesterday when I was on the Glasgow 'eye' and today I scribbled some roughly abbreviated notes for my big bang on my phone when we were travelling, hopefully I can find my data cable so I can transfer them across to my laptop.

For me it's when I feel that there's nothing to add to the fic and also nothing else that can be realisticly edited from it too.

I hope you get some writing time in tomorrow then! Family time does take up lots of energy... but hooray for getting ideas anyway & being able to capture some of them!

I was able to work on some fic today and make progress toward my word count goal for this month's challenge. It's not a whole lot, but I'm excited just to be writing. The dilemma will be to keep writing or to wrap presents...

Discussion topic...for the most part, I just know. When your revisions consist of changing nit-noidy non-important things. It's time to send to the beta or to post.

That's great that you're feeling excited about writing right now. Long may it last (& may it be fitted in around holiday obligations!).

During the work week, it's hard to find time to write, and this week my wife is off three days so there'll be too much distraction to accomplish much.

I know a fic is done when I've got an ending I'm happy with. I don't do a lot of editing, usually I go over it once and fix any typos that the voice recognition program made and that's it.

Oh, I hear you about the work week making it hard to write. :/ Hopefully you can enjoy the time both of you are off this week, anyway. :D

What voice recognition program do you use? I feel like I could ask a million questions about these things cuz someday I may end up using one...

My work hours suck (10:30-7), and by the time we've had dinner and spent some time together, the night's mostly gone. -_-;

Right now I'm using the one that comes with Windows 7, and it's okay, but not great. I'm constantly having to go back and correct it. I just got an iPad2, and there's a Dragon program on there that might work better, but I've haven't tried it yet.

Voice recognition programs REALLY don't like Japanese names. XD

Oh yeah, I can definitely see that -- I leave work at 4 & even by the time I get home & stuff I sometimes feel too wiped to do much. ^^;;;

I've heard good things about Dragon, so if you try it, I hope it works for you! I didn't even know Windows 7 came w/a voice recognition program -- not that I have that at home, but I do at work, so I'm going to keep that in mind in case I need it for something there...

I didn't get any writing done today either - nothing fanfic related, at least. I did, however, get a job. I think. Anyway, I should be back to my normal writing schedule starting tomorrow.

As far as when I know a fic is done... I guess I just know. You know, it just feels complete. Also, when it gets to the point where I don't see anything that needs changing and I just start fiddling with little inconsequential things that have a minimal impact on the quality of the story, that's usually a signal for me that it's time to either send it off to the beta or just post it already.

Able to finish editing Chapter 8 of my Big Bang more or less. I still think I need to tweek out a couple things and need to figure out if I want to do a new chapter ending, but I think I'll be able to figure out those things sometime this week.

For longer works it's when I got all of the scenes and ideas I wanted in the story written done and if possible have a beta look at it. Since I do chapter fics sometimes it's when the chapter has been finished and looked over (if I'm able to find someone to do that).
