Discussion topic: packing (for any purpose, not just traveling)
Because I'm in the middle of packing to go back 'home' in the morning for a few days and have to be up at silly o'clock (4am!) :)
A couple of things I've noticed about my own packing, besides the stuff it all in and hope the zip closes method is that I've needed something and realised that not only is it packed, it's also somewhere near the bottom of the holdall. An example of that is my slippers, I packed them thinking it wouldn't be too cold in the flat and then of course it got really cold the other night and I ended up wearing my ugg boots around the flat.

Have you ever had a scene where your characters packing and they've then realised they need something they've already packed or they've forgotten something but it's too late to go back and get it.
What would they do?

Still no writing or revising, though I keep hoping I'll get around to it. The next few days will be too busy to even think of writing.

I finished a really REALLY rough draft of another eastasianfandomgiftbag fill that I'd started weeks ago & was kind of scared to finish b/c it's... well, it potentially could go on for thousands & thousands of words (I kept thinking of more plot twists that would be lolworthy to add in). & is slightly complicated in a few ways. But I feel good that I have even just the roughest draft of it, so I can start editing out crap & doing things like adding in the tricky bits I skipped so far.

I think Natsume (from Natsume Yuujinchou) would just carry on & make do w/whatever he'd managed to take w/him; most of his life he's had so little in the way of personal possessions or home comforts anyway (sob). Taki would just be a total badass & either whip something up or figure out how to do w/o it. I... kind of think Tanuma would be most likely to flail, bless.

I wrote about 600 words today, and am moderately happy with them - I even found myself unexpectedly charmed by my villain today, which is good, since I wanted to make her a bit more likeable than she was in canon; I just hadn't expected to do it so soon. And hey, maybe I'll reread it tomorrow and think, "ugh, what was I thinking, she's still so awful," which is also fine. I think I might have finished a scene, too. I wasn't expecting to, but then for some reason after I wrote a certain line, I realized that it had a ring of ominous finality to it that I liked. Unfortunately, I think that means I'll have to add another scene later in the chapter, which means I can kiss my goal for this month goodbye; but if it's better for the story in the long run then hey, what's a missed goal or two?

Ive never written a fic about packing but its a cool idea - especially wondering about how different characters would go about it, with what consequences (I bet Hikaru's Mum does his, and Ochi's is packed by the family's maid. I wonder if anybody takes their teddy to Go conventions, or if anyone's mother puts the teddy in without their knowing...).

It has been a bad day because 750 words appeared to have deleted every single word I'd ever written there. I still don't know why, nor do I understand how it got fixed (apparently without the site owner's involvement). What I would advise, to those who use this site, is not to tinker with the 'unlocking' feature - it messed up my login password, and alternative login methods (Google, OpenID) meant the site treated me as a stranger with no archive, whereas Ive topped 20K in the last month.

I still think the site is good but that I came across one of its weaknesses and, though I got my words back (after several password resets), this experience has taught me to be careful and backup more often.

Got one ficlet posted and edited a bit of my Big Bang. Man the last few days I had been on distraction mode, but at least I got a couple writerly stuff done still. Hopefully I'll be able to be more focus getting my projects done.

Don't think I had done a packing scene and such before, so I can't answer that LOL.
