Welcome to a new week!  I'll be checking in with you this week to see how you all are doing with your works in progress and other writing goals -- and hopefully keep myself on track in the bargain!

How's the day going so far for fic?

How much time have you spent on your fic today, roughly?

In five words or less, how do you feel about that?

Discussion question: We're one week into the new year.  Did any of you make New Year's resolutions that involve writing?  If so, what are they?  What is your plan of action for achieving those goals?

No writing so far today, but it's early still. On the other hand, I have things I should do that don't involve fic. The jury's still out on whether I'll force myself to fic today. :)

One of my goals for this year is to strengthen my plotting skills by taking a class a quarter (or so) in this area. I haven't found one yet that appeals to me or that I'm willing to spend the money on. My plan is to just keep up-to-date on the classes that are being offered at various sites and (hopefully) find one I like and take it.

There are various books and things out there about writing, too - they're not necessarily about writing fanfic, but good writing is good writing whether you're writing about your own characters or borrowing someone else's.

I'm far better at characterisation than plot, but sometimes plot can come just by knowing your characters and throwing obstacles at them.

If a rich uncle dies, leaving all his money to your character, but they've got to do something they consider unethical, or would never do otherwise, in order to get it? What if someone else contested the will... and your guy REALLY needs the money?

Can't think of any specifically fandom idea - but then there are so many different fandoms and so many different characters in each one that I'd never be able to think of something specific for you - only you can do that! :D

Oh, yeah, I know all about the most recommended books for the genre in which I write (romance, and most of them are about writing in general, not specifically writing romance)--not that I've read all of them. But I learn better with classes and the interaction with the instructor and other class participants. I found a bunch of classes this morning, happening a various times over the course of the next four months. I may or may not participate as each one takes place, depending on what's going in real life at the time.

I posted a nearly 3000-word fic at 1:20 this morning, so I think it went really well. Haven't written anything else yet today, though. But posting up a fic always makes me feel good. :D

I've given up on New Year's Resolutions; I never manage to keep them past the first two or three days. If I can keep going with writing something and posting a fic every week or two I'll be happy enoough. (And no, they don't all have to be 1000+ words, of course. :D )

The day is going excellently. :) I finished and posted a 1117-word fic, "Guessing Game", which took me about an hour to complete (including breaks to surf the Internet).

Under the circumstances, I. Feel. GREAT.

(And no writing-related resolutions this year, I'm afraid.)

I've been really horrible about writing this week - I think it's because work has been really demanding - but I went back to the beginning of my wip and am doing a lot of editing yesterday and today. I've figured a few things out for the last half of the story that will hopefully lead to inspiration when I take a crack at writing it.

So far, I've only spent about half an hour on the editing bit, but I'm just taking a small break right now.

Mostly, my New Year's Resolutions are to simply write more (both fanfic and original) I'm doing the [community profile] inkingitout challenge and am hoping to write 80K this year.

Ehhhhh, the day was all right. I spent far too much time faffing around & feeling unable to focus on anything. I did some decent edits on a story for [community profile] eastasianfandomgiftbag, & started something based off a [community profile] fic_promptly prompt. That was good! I only wish it hadn't taken me so long to be able to crack down & get to them. My concentration is terrible lately. :/

I didn't make a New Year's resolution per se, but I did sign up for [community profile] inkingitout challenging myself to write 150k words of fic this year (I wrote about 175k this year, but I anticipate being a bit busier this year). I've made a decent start so far -- I think I have about 6k written. My plan of attack so far is to just make myself write fic when I do my 750 Words for the day -- sometimes I'll just vent about work or something in there, especially if I'm in a hurry, but so far this year I've done fic every day. I'm hoping to build up a buffer against the times when I'm unable to write any new fic words.

Actually. I was trawling my hard-drive looking for a started fic that I know is on there somewhere (though I'm blowed if I can actually find it!!) and came across a mostly-written piece I'd started ages ago and never finished or posted.

So I've actually posted two separate pieces today - though they're both about the same characters.

Way to go!!

(I just hope the rest of the year caries on being this good on the fic front for me!)

Today's been a no go zone for fic. Didn't even get the research I had planned for today done because the net was out for most of the day )and of course I had to keep checking back to see if it was up yet).

My writing goals for this year were to basically write more, and become a little more disciplined with writing. I've joined a yearly writing challenge to help with the first, and the spreadsheet I'm using this year is a daily one, rather than a weekly one so I hope that helps me writing every day and not putting stuff off so much.

Back to report a good editing session. I might have lost word count in the process, but there were a couple of paragraphs I just knew shouldn't stay. I was finally able to cut them and subsequently adjust the text accordingly.

All in all, not too bad writing wise today. Probably somewhere over the 60 minute mark. Amazing since I've been busy. (okay, cheated since that's really six words).

No writing resolutions, actually no resolutions period. Just enjoying the fact that 2011 is over!

Today was another pretty decent writing day. I added a new scene to the fic I was working on yesterday and did a little bit of editing too. Classes start again tomorrow, but I'm hoping that I can keep on track with writing as well.

No writing resolutions. I don't normally do resolutions, unless "don't murder the sister-in-law" counts. I think my unofficial resolution is to try and finish the evil WIP, but I've been resolving that for a while, so it doesn't get to be official. *sigh*

I was able to get that prison break in scene from my help_japan story written. Decided to take a slight different approach, so I ended up doing little edits here and there on the scene first and then wrapped it up with around close to 70 new words, LOL. Besides that I was double checking on canon stuff over one character and thought about a couple plot holes in the story I want to fix.

My writing resolutions are to get both my Big Bang and help_japan fics posted. Also I would like to participate and write for [community profile] pokemon_bigbang, though it depends if I have thought of a plot and the time for it.
