[personal profile] anehan posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
I'm once again in the AIM room writethisfanficsessions. Do join me!

It occurred to me that wouldn't it be fun if this community had a (semi)permanent room on AIM or IRC? That anyone could drop by at any time and find writing buddies there? Of course, there's no way to staff such a room all the time, so we couldn't guarantee that there would be anyone there. But it could be sort of informal where people would just log in when they were feeling like writing and/or chatting without someone having to post here in this community. There could still be formal writing sessions when someone would definitely be there. Your thoughts?

I have no idea how a permanent room would work (on AIM or even less so on IRC); I'm the opposited of a power user, ha! Can't people just sign onto writethisfanficsessions whenever they want, & if someone's there, someone's there? Or is this different? Or do you mean in the sense of advertising it more as a place people could just go (say, in the comm's profile, etc.) at any time?

Ahhhhhhh I'm trying to finish up a short fic but I really need to go get some dinner. I may pop in the room later if I am feeling sociable & not too easily distracted. ^^;;;

I replied but the internet ate it!

Anyway, either would be good. I love IRC, though. Haven't used it in years... maybe DW has some room for us on their channels.

AIM is probably more accessible, but it doesn't keep a history or have controls like IRC. On the other hand, in my client if I set it to autojoin a AIM chat room, it'll open the chat room if it's not open or join it if it is. Very simple.

Actually, there's an option in AIM to log chats.

Unless you meant, like, available to everybody? (I haven't been in IRC in yeeeeears, lol.) If so, ignore my pointless babblings ^_^;;

I haven't logged into AIM in so long I can't remember my password, and I'm not sure which email account I used to set it up. I like IRC, and I'm used to it from Yuletide. (That said, if people preferred AIM, I'd cope with it. But I like the non-proprietary aspects of IRC.)

Oooh, I like the idea a lot but I know bugger all about either, other than to log in.

I like the idea! And I'd be happy to staff it, at least some of the time.

That's exactly what I meant by staff: "have the chat window open when I'm around" -- and I'm more than happy to do that. Sorry for being unclear (it's been that kind of day)!
