Another day, another... Tuesday. How's your writing?

  • I wrote!
  • I edited!
  • I made plans!
  • I did research!
  • I posted!
  • I took a break!
  • I did something else!

Discussion: Are you inspired by other fanworks? Have you felt compelled to write a story based on someone else's fanart or AMV?

I opened up the document? Yeah, yesterday was not a good writing day. I did some editing for a buddy and did some housework, but every time I tried to write nothing happened. Bleh. Tonight I will finish the edits on my buddy's fic and hopefully get something written on mine.

I have definitely been inspired by other people's artwork and/or fic! Sometimes it'll be a throwaway line they gave that I wanted to develop more, or an artwork that begs for a story. Obviously, I always cite references so people can go and see the original fanwork. I've had people be inspired by my stories and/or OCs as well (I love when that happens). ♥

I lost yesterday to netflix so nothing got done at all :$
Have been in socio and psych lectures all day and only been home a hour or so, and the plan tonight is to look over what I have so far for my casestory fic and also decide what I want to do with my prompts for this months round of prompt_in_a_box.

I don't really look at a lot of fanworks these days, haven't the time :( I'll have to say no to getting inspired by fanworks and doing something myself.

I am planning like a crazy planning thing. I started poking at "Mayhem in Mayfair" last night. It's very interesting (read: difficult) to go right from an intense, fairly dark slashy story to a much lighter, plot-driven story with the same viewpoint character. But, he's my default POV guy, and he's the right one for what I'm doing. Nonetheless, I think I may skip to a different scene with another POV, so I can get back into the right mindset for this series.

I am inspired by other people's stuff all the time. The most awkward is wanting to make a video based on someone's truly epic fanfic, only to realize that all of the footage you want to use only exists in your head. :)

I won't lie. It's kind of a dream of mine that an artist will be inspired to illustrate something I wrote. I would be over the moon. :)

I posted a treat for the Book of Friends exchange. I think I like it? I mean, I do, it's just... it was at that stage where I couldn't look objectively at it anymore (I'd already given myself a break of a few days to let it sit, I was just in danger of editing it to oblivion). I really hope I can do more treats. ^^;;;

I don't know if I'm inspired by other fanworks so much -- actually, art more than other fic. I've never written a fic based on a fanart but I feel like I might at some point; I've had a couple of ideas niggle at me based on fanart before (even if I haven't done anything w/them!).

I am getting so antsy now. I see the number 5 and I'm dying to find out what they are (art? fic? FOR ME?!?!?!?). I imagine this will only get worse as more people post finished pieces. T_T Were you able to finish your main gift Or re you like me and posting treats first. XD I hope my buddy can get those edits to me soon. I know I've got time still, but I'm getting more and more excited now.

You can tell right away if any of them are for you! Check your Gifts off the sidebar of your AO3 home page & if you see a Mystery Work from the collection, well, then you know!

I did post my main gift as well, so hopefully it's full steam ahead w/treats now. ^^;;

I hope you get your second set of edits back soon!!!

...and now I'm going to be checking my gifts every 5 minutes. XD

\o/ Yay you posting your main treat! That'll definitely be a big load off your mind.

Me too! I got my characterization/true-to-canon beta notes back, but the ones I'm waiting on are the technical notes. My buddy that's doing them is literally a phD in film studies (horror genre), so I really value her insight on building suspense and all of that. Still, I am oh so patient. *looks away and tries to keep straight face*

Didn't write a word yesterday. Got engulfed in working on my new website.

Wrote very little today. Meh. I need to do more plotting, I think.

Other fanworks can spawn thoughts. And those thoughts can turn into ideas. Very often, however, the thoughts are more along the lines of: "Oh, it would be cool if this happened," or "Why haven't anyone ever written X?"

Impossible as it might be given that my freelance art project has exploded on a THIRD front, I wrote a ~1650 word short story today, The Admission of Desire", which is a retelling of the final scene in the canon episode "The Wire" with a bunch of UST added.

You can see that short scene (2:30) here if you're curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t02v9EUHs30

And my answer to the discussion question is: at least once, but I'm so frazzled right now with stress that I can't remember the details.

Worked on editing my first bingo fic, and started writing the second. I guess today was BINGO PARTY day?

I'm inspired by other people's work all the time. Sometimes it's in a strange way, though - for example, if I see a certain trend in characterization or the way a relationship is developed, I end up wanting to write the 'opposite' of that trope. (Does that make sense? o.O) Not out of spite, just to see if I can actually do it.

As a person who also likes to also go against the grain, it makes perfect sense. I like to remix general ideas and tropes, (along with pairing dynamics).

I wrote another 1K on my RBB. If I keep the speed, I'll have it done this week. Then I can poke at my more difficult queer bigbang.

The story I'm currently writing is inspired by a fanart so my answer is yes. I also write remix (and are glad to have my fic remixed.)

I wrote a few hundred words today in a scene I had forgotten I'd never finished. It's technically finished now, in that I've addressed everything that needed to happen, but I'm going to have to go back tomorrow and edit it a lot, including making the last few lines funnier.

And yes, I get inspired by other fanworks quite a bit - that's the short answer, but I'm really tired right now so I'm not going to be able to explain the long answer without making an idiot out of myself.

I was able to put new words on a new story today (my WIPs, why aren't you cooperating?) and hopefully I'll finish it by tomorrow so I could turn my head away from the shiny and write something for my WIPs.

Strangely, I'm more inspired by other fanfics rather than say fanart or AMV. The inspiration is mostly, what if character Y from this other fandom encounters this same situation in this fanfic I'm reading.

I finished a story for my writerverse challenge, which in and of itself was amazing since my inner editor wont shut up.

I'm mostly inspired by fic than anything. Like some above, sometimes a throwaway line or a setting will perk my muse. My story for next month is a KKM idea, where Contart, in a past life was a rurouni. There have been a few pieces of art that have inspired me (my 3 year fic is based on a picture) but usually I'm just too blinded by the pretty to get a story idea.
