It's the return of the WIP challenge! This time we're going to see how it goes without buddy groups -- feedback indicated that it was hard, if not all of your buddies were able to continue with the challenge, to really feel connected to, & inspired by, other writers. Some folks have suggested just having comm-wide check-in posts, & obviously anyone can set up a writing sprint or session as well. So we'll see how that goes this month!

If you're interested, please sign up in comments using the form below. Signups will end January 31st (using whatever time zone you're in).

  • Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
  • Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
  • What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
  • What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
  • How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
  • Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

And now for the help wanted section of this post! Another helpful piece of feedback received was the suggestion of having daily check-in posts, where people could cheer or commiserate or get encouragement or whatever. It'd be really great if we could get someone to take this on for a week at a time. You'd just have to post, sometime during the day in your time zone, a quick sentence or two: "How's the writing going today? How are you feeling?" or whatever.

I'll volunteer to do Feb 1-5 & 27-28. Could we please have volunteers for Feb 6-12, 13-19, & 20-26? Just let me know please.

Thanks everyone. I'm excited to try this again -- in November it was super helpful for me, & I'm definitely feeling a bit adrift, fic-wise, right now, so hopefully this can help get me & some of you back on track!

Which Marvel comic(s)? I've got at least a passing familiarity with most of the main ones.

(Also: Dude. Fifteen thousand words? Wow. *is a drabbler*)

I'm not actually working on any fanfics right now (my writing plate is full of profic), but I'd like to put myself out there as a potential help to others challenging themselves this round. So, uh:

What you could offer other participants yourself: Camaraderie, idea bouncing-off-of, writing sessions, general grammar-type help, help with doing research.
How people should contact you: Direct message is probably the best choice to start, but once I know your SN I'm on AIM a lot (revenita).
Time zone: Arizona, which is GMT -7 hours right now, I think.

Hello! New community member here! ;-)

Being directed to this community -- and this post in particular -- is all coming at a good time for me. I have several WIP's currently stalled, with the hopes of finishing them up this year. Or at least making some progress on them. A challenge to work on them next month could be quite helpful to me!

Level of challenge: At least two new chapters written for 2 different fics.
Fandom(s) involved: Major (anime/manga), Lord of the Rings
What you're looking for from the challenge: accountability and encouragement to not procrastinate!
What you could offer other participants yourself: I won't be able to offer much this time around, but I hope to be more helpful in future challenges!
How people should contact you: DW PM for starters
Time zone: CST (GMT -6)

Perfect -- I'll write those days in my calendar!

I've been reviewing what I've already written for my Major fic, and I hope to post it before the month is over -- that'll make it easier for cheerleading, etc! ;-)

Level of challenge: Producing words! Possibly even finishing stuff. (My writing style is reminiscent of somebody cooking a seven-course meal all at once - stir something here, taste over there, drop a bayleaf in somewhere else...)

Fandom(s) involved: Goodness only knows. I have a Captain America AU, an X-Men/UNIT (Doctor Who) fusion, a TNG/Legend crossover snippet, J'onn J'onzz of the Justice League, and my new fandom The Middleman all clamoring for my attention at the moment. And that's just the frontrunners.

What you're looking for from the challenge: Tail-kicking. A place to report in. Feedback on snippets, commiseration over writer's block and/or misbehaving characters. I may want someone to bounce ideas off at some point.

What you could offer other participants yourself: Feedback. Beta (SPAG, quite a few fandoms, and "does this make sense to non-fans". Gen only.) Commiseration. Having ideas bounced off me.

How people should contact you: PM at first.

Time zone: Eastern (US) - GMT minus five.

Level of challenge: Finish this &#!$*#% fic that I have one chapter left to go of after two years! (So that's, er. Edit ~5000 words and line-edit the 7000 that I rewrote last month. And possibly read through again and cry when I find more plotholes, but we'll get to that later.)
Fandom(s) involved: Doctor Who
What you're looking for from the challenge: Cheerleading, asskicking, accountability in general really.
What you could offer other participants yourself: The above, plus idea-bouncing and betaing. (I can beta for: Doctor Who and spinoffs, BBC Sherlock, Randall and Hopkirk (deceased), Big Bang Theory, Harry Potter. I can't beta for: porn.)

Level of challenge: 1 story finished.
Fandom(s) involved: Not sure yet, but there is FFVII fic in my future.

Writing nonsense and FF7 notes seems to be the best I can come up with right now, so a full return to fiction writing would be nice and hopefully achieved!

I would normally love to help out with check-in posts, but February will be a work-heavy month for me. But if you're really stuck, I'll pitch in. Later in the month is better than earlier.
