Hi there! It's me again! :D

On this day in the middle of the month, how are your projects going? Have you been
  • writing,
  • planning,
  • researching,
  • or maybe something else?

Discussion: Let's talk about the weather! Do you like to use weather and other natural phenomena in your stories, for symbolism/realism/atmosphere and such? Or do you ignore the weather unless it's important to the plot?

Today was a writing day; I completed and posted a new chapter of "Ache" (whose AO3 tags are starting to look truly alarming!) and completed and posted a new short story, "Ruin", which is chock-ful of angst. Both are set in the ReBoot AU Lethe!verse, and both are Bob/Megabyte.

I love using the weather in a number of different ways, whether just to set a certain mood or as outright pathetic fallacy. "Ruin" certainly makes use of that trick; the ST:DS9 stories I write are, of course, set on a space station, so it's very hard to include atmospheric conditions in those :)

I did my 750 Words but otherwise nothing else cuz I was out of town this weekend.

I love seasonal stuff in fic -- my current fandom love, Natsume Yuujinchou, works in tons of gorgeous seasonal imagery, so I love to see that in fic. I try to put it in but probably not so well.

I am planning and researching today. I'm not sure how to order the events I want to cover in my next chapter, so I'm working through different scenarios. I also have a new challenge fic I'm thinking of writing for next month, and I don't have a clue what I'm going to do with the prompt as yet, so I'm doing a bit of brainstorming with that, as well.

I've used weather a lot in my writings, since much of what I write takes place outside, and weather can affect the plot. Even when it doesn't, it's a nice thing to include to set the atmosphere or even just flesh out details of setting.

Writing, about 600 words so far today? But not done. And also, I planned out the rest of my current chapter. And did some reading for some folks I've been betaing for. I'm discovering that I really enjoy betaing! If the writer is someone I consider to be better than me, I learn a LOT by seeing what they've changed from draft to draft. If it's someone else, I can often spot some of the same issues I have, and when it's someone else's writing, it's easier to see WHY problems are problems, you know?

Anyway, weather! I sort of tend to ignore it. I might drop a mention, but unless it's figuring in somehow, I just let it go. Probably terribly lazy of me.

I write ST:Enterprise fic, so weather isn't a factor in a lot of it, but I write both ep-related and AU stories where the weather on a planet is definitely part of the story. Usually it relates to the story, but other times it's to provide some detail about the setting to distinguish it from a random generic planet.
