April 25, Wednesday Check In

Another day has come and gone, so now it's time to check in.

How many new words did you write today? Did you reach your goal? Were you editing instead? Researching? Or was today a day of rest?

Sometimes when you're blocked, writing something completely different than the story you need to work on can help get the gears turning.

For this exercise, make a list of significant life events – birth, death, graduation, marriage, having children, starting your own business. Next, come up with a metaphor for each of these events. Remember: a metaphor is when we say one thing is another thing. A simile is when we say one thing is like another thing.
Metaphor: Life is a dance.
Simile: Life is like a box of chocolates (as a metaphor, this would be life is a box of chocolates)

I'm not getting anywhere, I'm just being lazy, sigh! And I just signed up for another challenge for next month, what a silly I am. I'll never get anything written if I just keep on loafing and wasting time!

Okay, got that out of my system. Now I'm going to go eat something, then settle down and write for a set time period. We'll see if anything comes of it!

Ah, I took a break from the scene that's giving me trouble and decided to write a tiny little scene that's going to go at the end of the chapter once everything's done. It's very short, about 250 words or so, but it had nothing to do with the part I'm stuck on and, even better, is from a totally different character's point of view. I may need to make it a bit longer, but I'm going to run it by my beta and see what they think first. I've also got a new plan of attack for the part where I'm stuck, so hopefully things will go a bit better for me writing-wise in the next few months.

Also, that definitely sounds like an exercise I'm going to have to try some day. Metaphors and figures of speech are one of my weakest areas, and this sounds like a good way to work on them.

Yesterday was able to finish another scene from my help_japan fic while today thinking a bit over where I want to take it next. Bleh, kinda stuck again, always hate that. D: That exercise does sound interesting so guess I might try that if I'm still stuck lol.

Also today Beta A is suppose to give back Chapter Six of my FMA Big Bang to me as she said she would get it done, but she hasn't yet. Might hit her up on Skype tomorrow about that. Meanwhile had been rereading parts of the manga to prepare myself if I'll need to edit stuff characterization wise.
