How'd the challenge go for you this month? Did you make a lot of progress? A little? Do you feel any closer to meeting your goals? Did you learn anything about the way you work or your characters?

Was pretty much 50/50 for me. RL has been horrible and my writing has pretty much happened when I've been out, guess it's a good thing I always have my notebook with me.
I feel closer to my goals by setting a daily/weekly word count and it feels great whenever I get to my target and of course over it too. I work better when I'm dealing with a stupid level of stress which isn't good but it helps to focus on something that is not RL. With my characters it ultimatey depends on what I'm writing as well the fandom I'm working in.

RL has sucked, my work has sucked, but fanfic has been lovely for the last few days.

I am, however, having a bit of "I'm shite, my work is shite, I can't write, everything I do is terrible, I'm deluding myself, this is awful"... well, always, but particularly now. I haven't written anything solo in so long (up until this year) and I'm just fighting that "this is a terrible waste of my time and I'm a terrible person for doing it and I'm getting it all wrong" thing, you know?

Once I'm in the groove of writing, I can say "yes, this is writing the way I write, and that is good, carry on". It's picking up writing at all after this huge absence that leaves me cold.

Responding in response to a comment made a couple of days after this post, actually... :)

*ahem*

Getting past the doubt is sometimes the hardest part. Do you have a link to anything you've written? I'll be happy to look over it and offer some feedback/encouragement, because I know how hard it is to be running on fumes. :)

Most of my stuff is posted here (some is on AO3 under wintergrey if you have an account there) so I'll just add you to this journal and you can poke at whatever you like. Pretty much everything in this journal so far is fic. *g*

Today I completed and posted a ~2800 word fic, "Speechless" (Garak/Bashir, NC-17), so it's been a good day. :)

In some ways this month was really productive (getting me swept up in a new universe), but in other ways not so much (falling behind on my targets for my ongoing DS9 series). There's been a steep learning curve on the Lethe!verse but I'm happy with how much progress I've made (and with how much fun it is to work in a high fantasy setting). :)

FAIL MONTH. Don't even ask. Ergh.

Okay. When I first joined this community I gained some momentum, and finally (I thought) got back into the habit of writing, even if I didn't reach my specific goals. And then I began slacking off again, and now it feels like I'm right back where I started. Doing nothing. My lousy self-esteem keeps coming back to make me second-guess everything, and I haven't bothered fighting it at all this month.

Next month. Totally.

Bwahahaha. I NEVER write what I think I'm going to write for the monthly challenge, but at least I'm writing! Instead of the three stories I planned to write this month, I've written 25,000 words of a Sherlock AU that isn't even halfway done yet. I have learned SO MUCH about my writing process. I found a new tool in Scrivener, which is the BEST THING EVER for me in terms of writing and keeping track of a story.

It has been an AMAZING month.

Yesterday got the beta I owe done and also my beta got back the corrections for my short story and I had posted that. As for today, not sure what I'll do. XD I guess I'll try to get back on my help_japan fic and see if that'll do.

For this month it's okay, I guess. My beta hadn't gotten back to me on Chapters Six of my FMA Big Bang yet, so didn't get to work on that. Hopefully she'll be able to give it to me sometime in May. REALLY want to get the story edited and done with, lol. I did manage to finish my [community profile] god_tier fic and posted it though, so that's good. I also got a bit of help_japan and a couple other short stories written too.
