Date: Sunday, May 6th, 2012 13:39 (UTC)Gamlen is canonically a really slimy person and a "loser", but he also shows a loving, concerned side for his family (who he also loathes and resents) on rare occasions, so using him in this fic has been a good exercise. Keeping crappy people as crappy people who also do good things and are good to others here and there—while keeping them IC—is hella work. Carver and Gamlen are in similar positions in their families so I like putting them together in scenes, too. I'm a nerd because I get a kick out of being challenged like this.

Detroit to Chicago, an almost nothing trip—they would land before they departed thanks to the miracles of time zones. John was faced with a dilemma: Sherlock was scheduled to go tape an interview for a local radio station’s breakfast show. John was scheduled to go do his usual job overseeing set up for the show. He couldn’t be in both places at once. He mentioned it to Sherlock as they reached cruising altitude and the seatbelt sign flickered off.
“It’s the middle of the day,” Sherlock said. “I’ll have a driver. It’ll be fine.”
John’s lips tightened into a white line. “Do you want to know how many kidnappings and assaults I’ve seen happen in broad daylight?”
“This isn’t a war zone, John.”
“It’s close enough.”
“Listen to me. I’ve had creepy fans before. It’s part of the job.” Sherlock reached over the armrest and took his hand. “Yes, this one has gone a little farther, but ultimately, he’s just another creepy fan.”
John angled his body to face Sherlock more directly. “He could be on this bloody flight and we wouldn’t know it. He knows your schedule. That’s happened before, has it?”
“Well—”
“I didn’t think so.”

Date: Sunday, May 6th, 2012 11:21 (UTC)Rough snippet of the kink_bingo fill I'm working on:
He knew he was asking for trouble, leaving his door ajar like that. He'd seen the look in her eyes though as they had bantered (sniped) at dinner and the thought was more then worth the havoc his students could cause seeing his door ajar at this time of night. Not that they would; he had them too well trained for that.

Date: Sunday, May 6th, 2012 13:23 (UTC)I do, however, have a few short paragraphs from a WIP to share. The story is called "Ligos", it's from the Lethe!verse, and it concerns pre-wedding jitters. Extra points to anyone who spots the ST:DS9 reference. :)
***************************************
Hask had seen Bob in trouble several times before, including an incident at the Dance Hall of Eos that had involved a squad of police and a small riot which they'd all agreed never to speak of again — but she'd never seen him this nervous, and honestly, who could blame him?
At the moment he was standing in front of a full-length mirror in his wing of the Red King's quarters with a half-circle of tailors surrounding him at a respectful distance, trying to turn his head around backwards to get a good gander at the fit of his trousers and the fall of his brocade white waist-length cape. "Are you sure everything looks okay? Everything? And by 'okay' I don't mean 'good enough to pass on the parade ground' — I mean absolutely perfect."
Hask clasped her hands between her knees and cocked her head at him from the hassock where she'd been sitting for the past half hour, watching the fitting crew do their work. "Bob," she told him patiently for about the thirtieth time, "honeycomb, you look gorgeous. They'll be writing ballads about the cut of your pants, trust me!"
"They'd better be," the Guardian grumbled, casting a final doubtful glance at the curves of his own ass before turning to fully face the mirror again, this time tugging at the bottom of his short jacket. "Because if there's so much as a thread out of place Megabyte'll have me executed with full state honours."
Hask put both hands over her mouth to stifle a giggle, ignoring the look of annoyance that earned her. "I'll bet he's not obsessing half as much as you are right now!"
"Yeah, well… he doesn't have to wear clothes."
The head tailor in charge of Bob's ceremonial garb, a stout man named Graka with a pleasant round face, stepped smoothly forward and plucked at the shoulders of Bob's cape, a perfectly useless gesture that accomplished nothing but possibly made the sprite feel a bit better. "Master ar Soleus, you look positively enchanting. The Immortal Lord will undoubtedly be unable to take his eyes off you from the moment you step onto the stage."

Date: Sunday, May 6th, 2012 13:45 (UTC)I never have time to do all the meta-stuff I want to do. Visual notes like the ones you have there are awesome. I think they add depth because they give the writer something to work with that's more than just the usual in-the-head. I have been very guilty of buying things (music, movies, trinkets, clothing) that are meta-oriented. And possibly writing song lyrics, poetry, finding pictures... ugh. So much fun.
(Garak, of cooourse. A perfect cameo.)
