I wrote 805 words today (via 750 Words). I think they might even be useable!

I've been stymied on my poetry_fiction prompt all of January, & I feel like tonight maybe I wrote something that could be the start of it. Maybe, just maybe. It's an Otome Youkai Zakuro fic.

Really, I've felt sort of non-fic-brained since late December, so I will be pleased if anything gets completed in February, at all! It's time for me to go trawling through my ever-growing collection of snippets to see if anything jumps out begging to be worked on.

I've been rereading what I have written so far (in ages past, some of it!) and I've done some editing and tweaking. Now that I have reminded myself of where I was heading with these stories, I can maybe write something new and be productive for a change! I'm going to sit down and write for a set period of time this evening and see what comes of it.

I have a couple of stories I'm actually hoping to make progress on this month, but the one I'm going to concentrate on first is a multi-chapter story from the Major fandom, called "Dreaming New Dreams" (featuring Sato Toshiya and his decision to pursue playing in the Majors). I have about 5 chapters written, but want to do one or two more before I make it public.

Well, I looked over the edited parts of my fanfic from December and I'm less than happy with my editing skills... it feels like I've completely sucked the life out of my prose. Haven't looked at Ch4 yet. I'll start tomorrow, honest.

The original WIP that I'm writing is going a bit meh, too, but it's a fixable meh. Basically, nothing's happening: I just need to give my characters a push. I'm going to try writing by scene instead of in chronological order, see if I can't force myself out of writing the boring bits that way.

... I'm sorry you're not feeling great about your edits from December, though. :/ Maybe with a little more time to let your subconscious mull it over, you'll figure out ways to fix it?

I think the best way to fix it might be to get someone else to look at it, actually :p Would it be OK if I asked for a beta here at some point in the future? There aren't many beta-dedicated comms on DW, and advertising on the Doctor Who beta comm on LJ was a bust.

Writing by scene didn't work, but something else did! I've convinced myself that I'm writing fanfiction, and suddenly everything's flowing much more smoothly. Turns out I was getting hung up on the fact that I was writing A Novel. Now I just need to remember how to plot :p

Oooh, I was actually thinking today that it would be a good idea to put up a beta-offering & beta-finding post in here. Would it be all right if I did that (it might not be tonight) & you commented there? Or would you like to just post your own request? Or if you wanted you could put a beta finding/offering post & list your request as the first one, even--happy w/whichever option!

That'd be fine! I'm not absolutely desperate for a beta (my life is crazy busy right now), so take however long you need.

Cool, thanks! Though I wonder if it might be better for you to post directly, as others have--b/c you'd be more likely to get someone to see it. If we ever get to the point where there are a hundred posts in a day looking for a beta, then the policy would have to change, but given traffic levels now it's probably fine if you'd like to do that!

I might still do a beta post, but putting more emphasis on people commenting if they want to offer to beta--might be easier for folks to approach people who have already offered to do a SPAG beta or something. Also... I dunno, when I started writing fic I was so timid about admitting it or drawing too much attention to it that I never would've done a separate post asking for a beta. Finding someone in comments would've felt much easier for me. Maybe there are other folks like that too.

I wrote! More accurately, the February prompt list went up for one of my challenge comms, and I thought, 'Oh, damn, I still have a January fic to finish!' About 500-600 words today courtesy of panic, and I think I am half done...

The community in question is IJ's Fictunes, where you use a song as a prompt and write for the fandom of your choice (Kingdom Hearts, in this case). I also need to write a Pet Shop of Horrors fic in the next 36 hours. No so confident about that one.

That comm sounds fun. I wonder if anyone would want to run something like that on DW? (Definitely not me, ha. There might be someone on create_my_comm, though... *ponders*)
