It's Monday!  My day started off rather wildly, but it seems to have settled now.  Hope your Monday was a bit less crazy!

How is it going today in your world of writing?  Have you had a successful day, or has it been less successful than you had hoped?  Did any of the following happen?
  • writing?
  • research?
  • planning and outlining?
  • editing?
  • posting?
  • totally ignoring writing in order to do something else?
Today's discussion is brought to you by all those WIPs that stare you in the face when you open your writing folder:

Do any of you have multiple WIPs that you are working on?  How true is this flamingo-ism -- do you have a tendency to stick with a WIP until it finished before starting something new, or do you have a finger in many different pies?

I wrote some story notes and wrote/posted a new stand-alone ~620-word Lethe!verse story, "Roar", based on this portrait of Megabyte.

As for WIPs... I've got at least four of them on the go, and I still write new stuff all the time. :) Definitely a "many different pies" kitchen over here...

I have a ton of different pies. Currently I have 6 word docs open of active WIPs and a few that I've just saved and closed that I can't deal with right now. That said - I have a rule that I only post finished stories. If it's a multi-chapter story, I either have to finish it all before beginning to post it, or each chapter had to work as a standalone in case I never come back to it. What gets bad is when I mix up my own head cannon between open WIPs.

That said - today's writing goal is to finish one of my WIPs.

Multiple WIPs which is startling. I used to write a fic, finish it, start the next one. ::considers:: But I was writing 2-4,000 words at a shot then, too. Hmm.

A bit of writing today, a bit of polishing, a bit of planning. :)

I work on one project until it's done. Sometimes I'll get ambushed by something short and quick, but usually it's one thing at a time. I lose momentum otherwise and drop my place in the story. I do not understand folks who can go months between updates on a WIP. That's just not how I work at all.

So far thinking over how I'll get started on the next scene of my help_japan fic. Hopefully I"ll write a little something.

At the moment I have three active fics, two are WIP while another I'm done but needs editing. I might have several stories that are WIP, but for the most part they're quite short and I'll get them done quickly.

Currently not keeping up with anything but as for today's discussion topic.

I do that all the time and just today I wrote three short chapters for a new fanfic, while I barely managed to get 200 words in the fanfic I wanted to finish by the end of last month :(

I probably got about 40 ideas going and working on a dozen fanfics - depending on how inspired I am.

I've actually lately really embraced multiple WIPs, both for fan fic and my original work. My fan fic WIP folder has over 20 files in it, though for big multiparters I make separate files for new chapters to send to betas, so the number is a bit misleading, plus there are a couple who are pretty much done and some that are only notes. But I find that my output has actually increased when I can bounce around between them and I'll often open each file and only close it after I have written at least one sentence for it.

So yes, I have many many WIPs that I work on and for me it's the best way to do it because there will always be at least one of them I feel like really getting into and working on.

I banged out a short comment-fic earlier this morning in response to a Reverse Remix prompt, but haven't really touched my main WIPs today.

I'm in the process of trying to cut down my WIPs, since I have three that are within spitting distance of completion. But the parts that I've left for last are understandably the ones that are giving me the most difficulty....
