How did you get on in your fic related endeavours today?

[SPEND HOURS RESEARCHING TRAVEL BY SHIP (Fanfic Flamingo) THEY END UP TAKING HORSES]
Do you find you sometimes don't use the research you spent ages on? Do you find that there is any particular reason you don't use it or simply because you come up with something better?

Date: Monday, May 21st, 2012 13:30 (UTC)I do sometimes spend a lot of time on research that doesn't get fully used. Mostly, though, my lengthy research is done when I run up against something that I know I need, so it will get used because I'm searching specifically for that information. Usually I would end up not using something because in the process of the research, I discovered something better -- in one case it was the opposite of this flamingo example! I spent forever researching how long it would take to get from point A to point B by horse, then opted for going by boat because it fit the situation better and was more interesting. Of course, then I had to research how long it would take to go from Point C to Point D by boat....

Date: Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 17:39 (UTC)Me and researching is never a good thing. I always sit down intending to find information on something and 2 hours later I'm either watching something on Youtube or I'm playing Modern Warfare. Staying on task is a big problem.
Usually, I either anonymously put in a request at little_details community on LJ (I've usually done enought to meet their requirements) and wait for the information to come to me.
