How do you write when you are busy with other things and do you think you write as well when time is limited?

I use writing as a distraction when I'm very busy and the quality varies from piece to piece.

I edited a story and lost another 1000 words.

As for the discussion, I can't have any distractions. If I'm busy with other things, I just jot down the idea and continue what I'm doing.

If time is limited and there are no distractions, I can complete a story in that timeframe but I usually don't come back to it because I'd edit the story into oblivion.

Today was a no-writing day: the fire alarm in our building went off at 11:30 AM, and it wasn't a false alarm for a change. One suite in our building was destroyed, the whole place smells of smoke, BUT the fire inspector let us return to our suite after telling us we might have to find a place to stay elsewhere... so in spite of the stress and fear and OMG MUST RESCUE THE COMPUTERS, THE HARD DRIVES, AND THE CAT!, things have turned out about as well as might be expected.

But alas, no word count!

Re: today's question... I try to carve out a specific time to write each day and stick to it, no matter how busy I am, because writing is good for my mental/emotional health. I think I write at about the same level of quality regardless, but of course I write less if the time is limited.
