What have you been doing today: Writing, plotting, researching, editing, or maybe something else?

Discussion: Do you write original fiction as well as fanfiction? If so, do you find one or the other more difficult, or do they give you equal amounts of trouble? :)

I used most of the evening and night to write and post. I posted 2 drabble challenge pieces and have 3 non-challenge oneshots ready for posting. Hopefully I can get these remaining pieces posted by the weekend, I have my mum here till Friday and having days out with her is a bit more important than writing because it's not often that she can come up to Scotland for a visit.

I have tried writing original fic although I don't find it difficult I do get bored of it after a few hundred words and lose interest all together. I prefer to write fan fic because I find it comforting to write my favourite characters and when I feel bored I can switch fandoms. Writing fan fic also helps me with my dyslexia and has improved my writing on all levels - the fun (fic) to the serious (academic).

I write both but I find I haven't quite learned how to make completely dynamic original characters to my satisfaction left. There's always something lacking in them and so I tend to gravitate back to fan fiction so I can write characters I really love.

I wrote a heck of a lot today (im days behind in juno)

As for discussion, original fiction is hard. i have issues with building a character that the reader will like and sympathize with.

Nothing done today, but I do write both.

I have a harder time with original fiction, specifically plotting. I find it hard to think of an original story that doesn't feel cliche, trivial, and just plain not good enough.

I looked over the fic I started a couple days ago and able to expand with by adding a little more description/emotions here and there. For the most part I'm done, so in a couple of days I'll look through it one more time and then send it to one of my betas.

It's been a while since I write original fiction, which I think is slightly harder as I have to come up with the characters and the setting from scratch. With fanfiction I have the characters and world already, just need to think up a plot and make sure the characters are themselves (can be easily fixed when you have betas, lol).

No writing today -- I had to devote myself to paying work. *sobs quietly* :)

I write both original fiction and fanfiction, and fanfiction is what I write for pure pleasure/to relax. My original fic is science fiction and fantasy, so there's a lot of complex worldbuilding and attendant research involved which makes it a much harder slog.

Oops, forgot to add: I find that coming up with gripping characters and interesting situations in original fic isn't a problem at all (or at least, so my betas tell me). :)
