Discussion: Is there anything that is guaranteed to make you click the back button when you're reading a fic?

I nearly always click back when mental illness is written negatively. For me it is always the fics that involve PTSD and self harm, even when it is only brief. I've struggled with both most of my life, so I tend to nit pick more when I see them in fic.

What I wrote today was more in the way of notes, but they were helpful notes and a sign that I might be able to get past the block I have for the chapter I'm working on. I'm writing the notes up properly now and adding to them, and seeing if any research needs doing, after which I'll probably be able to actually write words.

Fleeing a fic is guaranteed if the characters are consistently referred to by their hair color and not their names, and if the characters are so out of character that they can't be recognized, except by their name.

Bad formatting always turns me back because if you don't care enough to make sure your fic isn't a block of text, why should I bother trying to read it?

Also when POV switches in the chapter and is marked as "So-and-so's POV." Hate that and I can't think of anything I've read where it was actually done in a good fic.

I opened a new scrivener file and started the time line. No actual words but it feels properly started now, not just a random collection of notes.
