Let's talk about the technical details of writing.
1) What do you use to write your fics? Is it pen and paper for you, or do you prefer a Word/other word processor document? Or perhaps you are a devoted user of Scrivener.
2) How do you keep your research in order. Do you just bookmark web pages? Do you make notes? Do you save clips to a writing software?

Date: Thursday, July 5th, 2012 23:45 (UTC)I use pen and paper from time to time, usually when I am somewhere without a computer and want to write down an idea or get a few paragraphs down while the Muse is active. My main work goes into Jarte, which is a word processor that uses Wordpad but gives you lots of nice features like tabs and the ability to run on a flash drive. I have my writing folders organized for each of my projects, and Jarte is set to find that main folder every time, so that makes it easy to have what I need at my fingertips.
My research is collected as documents in folders, but I also do things the old fashioned way, with printed pages of research and outlines in paper folders, for those times when I am away from my computer and want to do a little plotting. I have web pages bookmarked, but I also take notes from them for specific info I need and keep it in the assigned folder. I used to use a program that saved clips but it became obsolete, so I just copy and paste into an open Jarte document and save links and info that way.

Date: Friday, July 6th, 2012 10:19 (UTC)I am a huge fan of my thousands of notebooks. So I write a lot by hand. Write or Die has long since been a favourite online application (and now program) of mine but I recently also discovered Scrivener which is absolutely perfect for practically everything. I am so in love with that program.
Regarding research... I do way too little of that and then take notes.

Date: Friday, July 6th, 2012 10:32 (UTC)Since I write mostly drabbles I don't really research much. I had to figure out some dates/ages recently though, and I just wrote them down in my notes before I started the fic.

Date: Friday, July 6th, 2012 11:17 (UTC)I use pen and paper for most of my fics, it helps me to have something to work with. I mainly use Jarte because I can change the background colour (a very important feature for me), sometimes I'll use Scrivener but I'm not loving the program at all I feel like I've wasted £30 (that I can't really afford to waste just now).
I usually write the important bits of research in the back of my notebook so that I can flick to it when I need that info. Sometimes I'll bookmark web pages but only if it's for something I don't already know or won't need to use for a while.
