WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 12 -- Thursday

If I were answering one of our polls, I would have to say that yesterday, I took a break.  Unfortunately, that included taking a break from posting the daily check-in!  Sorry about that, it was just one of Those Days.  ;-)  Thanks to those who posted in Tuesday's check-in to say how you are doing!

Let's talk about today.  How is it going?

For discussion:  I'm using my time management icon today, so let's talk about that.  ;-)  How are you at managing your time?  Does Real Life sometimes throw you for a loop, making it difficult to get back on track with your writing?  Are you able to carve out time for writing no matter what?  Do you do better taking advantage of brief free times and taking them often, or do you find you work better if you have a larger chunk of time to work?  How do you go about making time for your writing, if free time doesn't come naturally?

That's a lot of questions, sorry -- feel free to answer as many or as few as you want!

This post is the first writing I've done this morning, but I have big plans for the day. I'm working from home today, so I'm hoping to breeze through my RL projects and then get on to the WIP writing projects. Plans for writing include editing and posting older chapters, and writing some new words for my current chapter -- maybe even finishing it if the Muse smiles on me!

I struggle with time management. Real Life reigns supreme as far as my time goes, especially since my job is very people-oriented and it only takes one unexpected arrival to throw off my plans for the day. I'm not complaining, it's all good, but it does sometimes get a wee bit frustrating when it means writing has to wait, sometimes for days. I don't seem to be as good as I used to be for seizing the moment for short writing spurts; I tend to do better when I have a really long expanse of time to work with, so that I don't fear being interrupted. I'm hoping to have that kind of day today!

156 words! RL was very hectic so I'm pleased with that.

I do often find it difficult to carve out time but I do seem to be getting better at the habit of just doing even five minutes worth a day.

I took a break yesterday. I had to because RL was truly awful, I felt like I was getting kicked from all sides and that just put me in a really bad mood.
I'm also taking a break today and likely the entire weekend because I'm away to Yorkshire tonight to see my mum and step-dad and they'll be keeping me busy while I'm there.

I'm usually quite good at managing my time but it always depends on how much I have going on each day. When RL throws me a loop I'll step back from whatever I'm working on to deal with that. The only brief times I've had recently have been between work and various appointments I have to keep with my support worker. I do try to find time to just sit down and write when I get a chance but it doesn't always work out that way but when it does I usually get down as much as I can even if it is only an outline for a scene or a very rough draft of a conversation.
