So in addition to not being able to put up the August WIP challenge reminder in good time, I also didn't put up the check-in post yesterday! Sorry about that, everyone! Tell us how it's going today, anyway:
& hey, for discussion, let's talk about mistakes. Have you ever written yourself into a corner? Realized you contradicted what you wrote 5000 words ago? How do you deal with that? Do you ever find that a mistake is better than what you planned to do? Does the thought of having to go back & correct a mistake that has wide-ranging impact in your fic make you abandon it?

How's your writing today?
& how do you feel about that?

Date: Monday, July 30th, 2012 20:56 (UTC)I tend to spot mistakes after I've posted and usually it's something trivial. A few times when I've gotten into a tight corner with a fic I've used humour to get out of it but it doesn't always work.
At the moment the only problem I'm having is using too much Brit speak, even in my head it sounds odd as the fandom I'm writing in is American.

Date: Monday, July 30th, 2012 22:40 (UTC)I have had some run-ins with mistakes. I was saved from one big "my character is not in character" mistake that would have been hard to fix, by a reader who stopped me in time at just the right point where I could make a change to my plan and it would still work. It turned out better than it could have possibly been before, so I am happy about that almost-mistake. A couple of times I have forgotten to include important plot points and then they aren't there when the story requires them -- or I changed my mind on something that I was going to bring in later and I realized I wanted it present now, and I have to back track. My way of dealing with that is to have my character reminisce about it happening at the point it would have happened if I had remembered to include it. ;-) It's worked well so far, and nobody seems to realize it's me covering up a goof!

Date: Tuesday, July 31st, 2012 03:36 (UTC)I have made a mistake that in a fic I have a blind character describing things it's impossible for her to sense. nother fic I accidentally create a glorified self-insert character. It's fortunate that they're caught before they're posted.
