Today's discussion topics: when in the middle of posting wip's, how do you feel about posting one shots, especially if there is long gaps between your wip posts?

I'm not so sure that I can criticise that, since I have a WIP that hasn't been updated in a few months. (And it's the final part of a three-parter, too, so I'm feeling especially bad about it.) But sometimes, what you ought to write and what you want to write don't always coincide, and I'll always always defer to the side of finishing what you want to write first (unless it's for an exchange where you have a recipient waiting, or something similar).

Then again, most of the time I try not to start posting something until I have a good 75 percent of it written. I made the mistake of not doing this with my current WIP -- I was about halfway done when I uploaded the first chapter -- and it's haunting me now. But it's my project for the month to finish it if I can, so I suppose I'd better get back to it!

I work on (and post) multiple WIPs at the same time, so I usually don't feel bad at all about updating other stories or posting drabbles or one-shots, even if the gap between updates on a particular WIP may be quite long. I work on (and share) what inspires me, whatever that may be, with the understanding that eventually I will get around to the other stuff again.

I've been traveling, so I haven't been able to do anything. I'm stationary for the rest of the week and caught up on my sleep, so I'm hoping to get somewhere now with my writing finally!

If it weren't for one shots in the midst of my WIPs, I wouldn't be writing. The one shots help me keep my hand in and actually help me process some of the things that are blocking me in my WIPs, since most of the time I am dealing with the same characters. So I am very much in favor of taking part in challenges and writing short things that come up from time to time, even if it's not related to my WIPs.

I ended up spending most of my day in bed. I was just so exhausted that staying upright seemed too much. With luck, tomorrow will be better. I'll resort to chocolate and caffeine if necessary.

I have one epic WIP. I've been working on it for about ten years now. I keep taking breaks from it and writing other things (posting them, too). I'm determined not to start posting another WIP, so I've only posted things that stand alone. A handful are stories in an arc, but I try to keep things so that, if I end there, it's okay.

I wrote 2000 words today.

I infrequently post wip, but when I do, I feel guilty working on other things because it seems to me I'm not doing the right thing, i.e. finish the wip.

Finished another chapter and sent it off for some input. Also did a bit more research on my main character (Loki from Thor/Avengers). I am pretty happy with it.

I have like 24 story ideas, I started about 6 and have three more almost finished. As [personal profile] gramarye1971 said, what you ought to write and what you can write does not always fit and my muse for individual stories comes and goes.

My main problem is that I get distracted by ideas and moods and then when I have a problem with a story, I get stuck. So I am really glad that I found someone here to talk about my current project cause that really helps a lot. Thanks again, Rice :D

Had a new fanfic idea, and suddenly realized I don't have the "UGH, EXAMS" excuse anymore. So I sat down and wrote ~800 rough words. POV of a character I don't always like and don't understand very well, so it'll be... interesting.
