I hope everything is progressing as planned! How did you do today? Was there writing, editing, research, or a much-needed break?

Have you ever written an AU just because you didn't know enough about the canon setting/period?

I've never written that sort of AU for any reason. I don't tend to enjoy reading such things, so it's pretty unlikely that I'll ever write one. I'll just have to avoid getting hooked on fandoms requiring a vast amount of research.

Date: Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 02:19 (UTC)I write a lot of AU, but it's usually closely based on canon, with only a few things changed, and even if I didn't know that much about the setting to start with, I'd have to research it so I could write it authentically. I just can't not research something like that, even if I want to not worry about the details! :-D

Date: Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 19:55 (UTC)I've never written that kind of AU. I've written AUs because I don't care enough about the most recent canon setting/period and there's only so much I can do that's canon-compliant and fits into my favorite era, but these AUs are still set in the same setting as that period of time, just with different things going on. Also I tend to write in fantasy/sci-fi where all the setting is spelled out in the actual canon, instead of historical fandoms.
