Discussion Topic!!

I often do my best creative thinking as I am trying to fall asleep. Of course this means I usually forget it by morning unless I write myself little cryptic notes or try to remember keywords to bring the scenes back to mind, but you do what you have to do! Do ideas or scenes come to you in special circumstances or do they just pop up whenever and wherever?

Euhh, yes! I do a lot of awesome plotting while falling asleep! I don't write it down because then I won't fall asleep and I have to prioritize sleep over plots, so. I just.. try to remember. I do okay, mostly! Sometimes I remember and it's like.... wow I really was like 70% asleep when I thought this made sense, wasn't I?

But also: THE SHOWER. I don't know, man. The shower is a splashy Idea Box.

Srsly, this. There's just something about being in the shower with nothing but your brain and the hot water to get the ideas flowing. I suppose it's the notion that there's nothing around you to distract you, nothing else that you have to be doing (except getting clean), that supercharges the thinking process. I've developed at least two full fics and worked through several bouts of writer's block in the shower. I once had the hot water run out on me in the process!

Bahahaha, whoops! Idk, my showers are always quick, but you're right about the no distractions, for sure. It's like a fully ingrained habit by now, the creativity just knows it's time to work some magic ;) ;)

Story of my life. Most of my first year of university creative writing assignments were plotted in the shower at 4am. I usually get so neurotic about it that I have to write it down before going to sleep, or else I'll never remember it in the morning.

Ahahaha, yes the sleepy-time plots can be a bit... fanciful. *g*

For some reason the shower doesn't work for me, but I tend not to linger, so that is probably it.

It does! Idk, I am a really speedy showerer, too - like 10 mins TOPS, but it's weird, things just pop into my brain there.

So I accidentally a few OCs when I gave in and started writing my "Creation of the Mata Nui Robot via the notes the GBs have on it". That'd be expected and reasonable considering there are at most three named-in-canon Great Beings (Angonce, Heremus, Velika) and at leeeeaaaast six exist, 'cept one of 'em's a younger sibling to Angonce. Whoopsieshit. I can probably work with it if I don't ever spell it out and make sure she's not taking over the plot... but still. Why, brain, why. (To the tune of 913 words.) And I may have made Velika kind of nasty. :C Eh, it'll all come out in the edit, and considering he has nearly zilch characterization as a GB I'm 0k with the words I've given to him. Also if I make him the murderer I can't really excuse a 180 personality switch, so giving him a personality consistent with being a murderer after some insanity-inducing prodding is reasonable.

Anywhere ever, usually sparked by (re*n)reading something. I read a little thing about a character having a good singing voice? Oops I filked (which is actually what I did yesterday :D). I'm reading along about people's speculation on how common usage of Suvas was? I get a voice in my head, shocked and fearful, saying "My suva -- the bastards, my suva--" and scrabbling at the mask that's now the only one she can use because she's lost access to the shrine-thing that houses the rest of them (because it got destroyed). I'm feeling grumpy about the lack of equal gender numbers in Bionicle? Transwoman Ta-Matoran. That last is going to be an interesting thing because I'm quite comfortably cis and don't want to bring down internet wrath on my head for doing it wrong... heh. Anyone got primary sources I can mine?

Did some beta work for a friend and pushed forward with a little more of the crossover chapter I've been poking at for a while now. I'm at the slog part of writing where all the fun stuff (i.e., dialogue) is mostly done and now I just have to fill in the action, which mostly consists of people standing around and saying the dialogue. But if I can get a little further on it this weekend, I'll be very happy.

I finished a fic yesterday, thankfully it didn't need a lot adding to it as the majority of it was written when I was travelling home earlier in the week.

One tricky scene in the fic I finished actually came to me when I was half asleep. Most of my ideas come to me when I'm walking or listening to music. I sometimes get ideas when I'm visiting friends and family but that depends on who I'm with and where we are.

It's amazing what your mind will unleash when half-asleep. Walking is a great time for fic ideas for me too. I forgot about that.
