Hi, everyone I am going to do the check up posts this week, being in Europe I think the late afternoon my time will work well for the time of posting. If not I am open to suggestions :D
So, how did your writing go this weekend/day?
(I would do a poll but somehow I can't
seem to figure out how to do it, might
be lack of a paid account?)
Discussion topic of the day: Reviews
What kind of reviews do you prefer to get?
How do you approach reviewing others?

Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 15:45 (UTC)Reviews. I like to hear the details what people liked and disliked, I prefer constructive criticsm but I think I would feel honoured about a little attempt at flaming :D I like praise but if it is just a "Great, carry on" I feel like someone clicked a like button and went on ...
I love to give useful feedback in a review but I tend to try and sugarcoat everything that could be misunderstood in some praise ... if I can't do that I just leave it. A few years ago, I enjoyed reading constructive criticsm of bad HP or LOTR fanfic via deleterius but now I feel it is a bit frustrating the effort spend at writers will not listen or can't understand. Like the girl who could not understand why Hermione even as Voldemort's daugther would not have naturally purple eyes ...

Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 16:51 (UTC)Any reviews! I really, really don't care at this point. Well, okay, I do. Positive ones. I prefer ones that show competence in the English language so I know my readers aren't a bunch of [train of thought stopped for own safety], and ideally I'd like them to touch on at least one part of the story that they liked instead of just being "Yay, I really liked this!"
I give unto others what I would like to be given: SPaG-appropriate with at least one part of the story specifically mentioned as particularly awesome.

Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 20:22 (UTC)Reviews: I haven't thought about them in ages - I haven't posted fic for ages. Yes, Ive glad of any but I like hearing what my fic made a reader feel, esp. if its different from my own feelings when writing. I like when a comment can spawn another story idea.

Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 21:15 (UTC)I'm bad about commenting on other people's stuff. I'm trying to get better at it, though. I know how much I love getting comments, and I want to give something back to the writers I enjoy.

Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2012 22:41 (UTC)I'm not too fussed what reviews I get as long as it isn't flames. I do like con crit from time to time but I do mention in my notes when I want it, usually when I'm doubting every word on the page.
I try to give positive reviews and also point out small mistakes in constructive way. I also like the kudos option on AO3. I won't review when I see "plz r&r" or "reviews make me write more" that to is a big no because it comes across as begging or desperate.
