A bit later this day - stupid migraine.

So how has anyone been today? Taking a break? Did some necessary research, talked to their beta? Or even wrote something? :D

Discussion Topic:

If you set yourself some goals - how bad is it for you if don't manage to fulfill them? Do you get more frustrated at your lack of progress or do you just say, maybe a less demanding goal works better or do just shrug it off?

I've done a lot of sprinting with people on Twitter today! It's been good. I'm kinda stuck-ish in my story but at least words are happening. :)

Me & goals - I try not to have many lately as I do get discouraged when they all go by unaccomplished. Deadlines used to be really motivating for me, but not so much anymore. Lately, I try to approach from the opposite side more often than not, and just celebrate what I do get done with no expectations.

I've been working on an outline/timeline for a chapter that's been neglected so long I forgot what I wanted to do with it, so it's taken a couple of hours to get back on track. But I think I'm back on track now. I'll probably spend some time with my outline now to flesh it out, which invariably turns into actual writing. I seem to have to know the order of how things are supposed to flow before I can actually write properly!

I continually set goals, fairly specific ones, but a lot of times I don't make the goals I set for myself. It can be frustrating, but there are often good reasons for it, like I really was too busy with RL to manage what I set out to accomplish. However, rather than change the goal, I keep it in front of me and just change the "due date" -- I figure if a goal is worth setting as a goal, it's worth continuing to strive for it. Eventually I will get there. ;-)

I worked on other things but my goal for tomorrow (which is today) is to make some more refind thumbnails and do research.

I did no work on my fic. I did write a short essay that was on a deadline, so the day wasn't a total loss. I have to figure out how to make the scene I'm writing work. It's broken, and I don't know how to fix it. Perhaps I'll bounce it off one of my beta readers.

I'm bad about self-imposed deadlines but good about externally imposed ones. That is, I often don't complete things I've promised myself to do, but I've never missed a deadline for a ficathon or fic exchange. I wish I could take self-imposed deadlines more seriously. That would simplify my life incredibly.

I'm making remarkably small short term goals at the moment (bar word count), that makes it easier if I miss them.

Very nearly fell asleep over the computer last night - I had to stop before it got unreadable.
