It's Thurdsday already - I hope everyone is making good progress with their stories.

Did you ...

... write something?
... thought about writing?
... took care of some urgent real life issues?
... thought about a scene?
... took a break (either intentionally or forced)?
... or something else?

Pacing - how do you figure out what is the right pace for your story?

I've written a bit. The section is infodumpy, and I'm having to make up my mind about bits of world building I hadn't really thought about before. Hopefully, readers will be interested. At twenty chapters in, they've got to have some of the same questions as the character who's learning all of this. At least, I hope so. It'll be boring to read otherwise.

I don't know that I do figure out the right pace for my story. My stories tend to sort of just happen. I must be pacing by instinct or something. That's probably not ideal (I like to know what I'm doing when I write).

One and Three - they are the same thing at the moment.

I have never really thought about pace, perhaps because my stories tend to be short. This said, in the same number of words they might cover an afternoon or several years. So I don't know what controls this, its an interesting question.

I've finally got back into writing for my big bang stories, though I haven't started one of the two I signed up to try and finish yet. =\ It's based on an old story but I've seemed to have misplaced/lost all my old notes so it looks like I have to work off what I remember.

I'm not really sure how I do with my pacing. I guess it depends on the genre and how long what I'm writing is.

Urgent real life had its way today. It'll probably be early to bed, too, but I'm going to try to at least play with my outlines, just to keep things fresh in my mind.

I think my pacing tends to be pretty slow, especially in my longer stories. I don't really plan it that way on purpose, but that's the natural tendency. I'm very chronologically oriented and try to make everything happen in the proper order. In one WIP in particular, I have a lot of characters who check in at intervals (in chronological order) and so sometimes it takes two or even more chapters to cover a single day.

I work on some world building for my new fic. I keep thinking there's so much to research.

I don't know whether I'm pacing right. It just happens.
