Friday already ....
How are you coming along with your writing?
- Great? - Not at all? - Squeezed a few words in? Made great strides?
Did you ever felt like you have taken on too much with a story idea? That you look at what you wrote or you are about to write something and can't continue because you are afraid you won't do it justice?
If so how do you get over it?

Date: Friday, September 7th, 2012 21:59 (UTC)I've squeezed in maybe 300 words or so on a new fic I shouldn't be working on but I'm writing anyway (because it's there and my Avengers fic is broken or something). But mostly it's editing and staring really really hard at the dialogue to see if they work.
I am almost always overwhelmed with a story idea if ten minutes into brainstorming I figure out that it's going to be novel-length. I really don't do long fanfics because I've tried writing it before and I don't have the endurance for it? So what I do is I try to focus on one good idea from that story and try to develop that as a oneshot just to scratch that itch. If that doesn't work, I outline the hell out of it, save that in the ideas folder and hopefully I could come back to it later if I'm feeling more up to the challenge.
If it's a short wip I'm currently working on that suddenly turned into a mini-word monster/ something stylistically complicated, I guess I cheat a little and look at other fics that have similar themes to mine and see how they worked through scenes I'm having trouble with.

Date: Saturday, September 8th, 2012 01:34 (UTC)I do sometimes, especially with certain scenarios -- like battles. When they come up in the story, they are so important yet so huge, I can't figure out how to write them. Basically I just set it aside for a time and chip away at it privately until I find a a way to write it that makes it more manageable.

Date: Saturday, September 8th, 2012 03:53 (UTC)I do it a lot, as I think big but my writing ability is not up to par. I usually just put these idea aside to see if something grows out of them.

Date: Saturday, September 8th, 2012 06:37 (UTC)Too many times certain story ideas I ended up making it much longer than expected. Also there are a few stories that I got started but then not continue because I don't think it's that well written.

Date: Sunday, September 9th, 2012 14:17 (UTC)When a story seems too big for me, I write fragments of it and put them aside. I want to be sure I can pull off the story before I commit myself to posting it.
