Trying to get some writing done? Whether you're taking part in the WIP challenge or just hoping to make some progress on your own, you're invited to come on over to LiveJournal and check out [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush next weekend.

What is [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush? It's a two-day, multifandom communal writing event where writers check in on an hourly basis to give each other support, encouragement, congratulations and commiserations. (Also jokes about penguins and alien fish. It's all welcome, really.) There is no time commitment -- you can join in for one hour or the full 48 hours, and you can drop in and out as your schedule, sleep requirements and writing muse dictates. Participants come from all around the world, so no matter when you drop in, someone else is bound to be around. All fandoms are allowed, and it's a great way to get yourself going on some new story, or break through a writer's block on an old one.

The next round starts November 20th at midnight GMT (i.e., Friday night at midnight) and runs for 48 hours, until Sunday night midnight GMT. Click here to see how the start time translates into time zones around the world.

Here's the FAQ post and here's the announcement for the current round. If you want to know what it's like during a round, check out the posts at [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48. You can also feel free to ask me questions and I'll answer if I can (I'm not a fic_rush mod, but I've done many of the rounds and I've hosted some of the shifts).

If you can't join in this weekend but like the idea, feel free to watch the community to get information on future rounds. Hope to see some of you there!

Anyone want to try the WIP challenge thing next month? I'm doing two end-of-year gift exchanges ([livejournal.com profile] windupandpitch &, yes, [community profile] yuletide) & I think this will be really helpful for me. Anyone else?

I'll keep the signup form the same as last month, as well as the general guidelines (though as always, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!).

Signups will be open until the end of the day on Thursday, November 25 -- the end of the day in whatever time zone you're in, I don't need to be exact. Then I can match up buddy groups again to start on December 1.

Signing Up

If you'd like to join us, please comment with the below info. Some of the details might not be used to assign buddies (not everyone will find buddies with common fandoms), but this could be a useful place for people to come find out more about their buddies as they are assigned.

  • Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
  • Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
  • What you're looking for in your buddy group: this could be as vague or specific as you like
  • What you could offer buddies yourself: ditto!
  • How buddies should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.

Copypaste below:

Thanks everyone! I've been finding this really useful this month so far -- I hope the other participants are, too -- so I'd love to do it all again.
