Today's discussion topic: When you get a new plot bunny, do you have to hunker down and write it straight away, or are you able to put it aside until the timing is more convenient for you?

When I get a plot bunny, I need to at least write it down, or it will wander off, leaving me sure that I had a great story in mind and wondering what on earth it was. Once I write down the idea, I can go away for quite a long time and still come back able to write. Of course, once I start writing, it's very hard to go away and then come back to the piece. I lose the mood and have to watch that the story doesn't go sideways into confusion.

All time dependent. Mostly I have to wait and wait for time to write.

It used to be that way when I could only write if inspiration hit. Then, I started to push myself to write or beta every day. And the thing is, the more I wrote, the easier it got but the more disciplined I got, the more it carried over all. I guess, part of it was that I'd had a few good ideas fizzle because I didn't plan the story out. So now, when I've got plot bunny, I think about it, I look at different angles... if it's going to be a multipart, I work with outlines. Bottom line, I can put it aside now until I'm ready to really do it justice.

I lose ideas if I don't commit to them. For short works anyway. For longer works the idea usually needs to percolate for a while.

When I get a new plot or pic bunny, I try to get it noted down in the working notebook as soon as I can. Then the bunny can wander around and explore its new home for as long as it needs -- I seem to normally have multiple projects running at once these days, so whenever notions or even more detailed bits hit, they go into the working notebook. They occupy my brain during idle moments (waiting in line, in the shower, cleaning house, whatever), and get recorded whenever I have a moment with the notebook. I seem to be losing far fewer bunnies these days.

I wrote and posted around 2800 words yesterday on a new set of short stories, "Six Revelations". Huzzah! I'm rather enjoying the experiment of writing a set of stories in different fandoms around a central theme.

As for plot bunnies, I can generally put them into a convenient hutch while I deal with the more well-developed bunnies that are currently hopping around on the table. It's only when a new bunny comes along fully fleshed and wrapped up in a nice neat bow that I'll write it out, just to catch it while it's fresh and every hair is neatly in place. :)

When new plot bunnies attack, I have to write up the idea and do some research to be sure it's an idea that is worth hanging on to. If the original bunny doesn't quite work, I turn it into something that will work, and then save it in a "when I get a round tuit" folder. Once I've worked it up in that way, I'll keep updating it from time to time as more related ideas come. Eventually, I'll be forced to write it for real because it will keep attacking me. ;-)

Depends if the idea fits for a shorter or longer work. Shorter works I tend to write it straight away while longer works I'll think about it for a bit first and plot out some. When I feel confident I have enough material to go by then I'll start writing it.

I don't feel so hot these days but I managed to force myself to write and ended up with around 1000 words for my new PWP with 3000 words and no sex so far all together. Aparantly, I am no good at this "just write down a quick kinky pwp"

As for plot bunnies, even as I was cutting down to a handful stories I really want to try and finish - I had this plot bunny for a non-con Red Skull horror/angst fic and tried to put it out of my head. Then I realised I need to get it out of my system. What is one more WIP on a huge pile reduced to a big pile of WIPs?
