Date: Sunday, November 18th, 2012 03:20 (UTC)I also sent chapter three of my fic to beta - yay! I've been ready to do that for a couple of weeks, but all my betas are busy people.
For realism: I guess that thus far, I seem to write fic within the realm of possibility. Currently, I'm writing a fic involving CIA crap and guns and stuff, and my fandom is Glee, so obviously stuff that would never happen on the show.
I think, though, that just about anything can seem realistic to the reader so long as the reactions of the characters (to what's going on around them) seems emotionally real. Emotional realism >>> plot realism, imo.
Whenever people describe books to me and only talk about world-building, I usually think, "Yeah, I could give a fuck about that. What about the PEOPLE? What about the writing? Is it good?"
