Another day, another chance to write or to do other things. I'm starting to worry about finishing my Yuletide story (ten days left! The first draft is almost done, I think. I just have to find an ending). Are any of the rest of you staring at impending deadlines?

What did you do today?
Write?
Edit?
Send to beta?
Research?
Post?
Take a break?
Something else?

How do you feel about your writing today? Is it going great? Would you rather not talk about it?

For today's discussion-- What sort of fic do you like to write? I'm thinking in terms of things like fluff, angst, casefic, and so on. I seem to be best at plotty angst, but I have a few things that are considerably happier and pretty low on plot. I can't write casefic to save my life, and my attempts at humor don't bear talking about.

Today I wrote/edited/posted the first chapter (3000 words!) of a... well, I guess it's sort of a phone sex fic, and more of a voice kink fic, but really hard to strictly define. At any rate, here it is: Chapter One of "A Friend in Need" (Knight Rider, Michael Knight/KITT, NC-17).

I have a tendency to write plot-heavy dialogue-heavy character driven fic, with a real taste for angst when I can get it. There are a few happy-go-lucky stories in the mix and most of my fics involve touches of humour to highlight the SERIOUS BIZNESS, but I think they tend to have an element of darkness to them, in the background if not actually in the minds of the POV characters.

Finished the third chapter of my Red Skull fic and maybe I get to write a bit more on another fanfic (have not found the muse for anything).

I love dark romance or flat out unhealthy relationships, but usually I need a plot or at least some narrative. For the Red Skull fanfic the "plot" is simply that he seeks to break and mold the OFC in a specific way, then again it is not really romance but more angst/horror. As a counter example for the Charlie's Angels' fanfic I got three plots going on at once. Two cases to be solved with some distraction side line throw in, as well as the dark romance between Dylan and the The Thin man.
The mix is different for all my fanfics.

I think I'm probably most prone to self-indulgently maudlin gen with tortured metaphors. For the longest time, even when I wanted to write romance it was so subtextual people hardly knew it was there.

Fic writing?! Well, after doing one lot of dishes and the vacuuming, I ended up vidding. Which is something I've discovered recently that I'm not bad at.

When I do write fic, I mostly do filler or minor character perspectives on canon events, that sort of thing. It's only in the Sharpe fandom that I'm really happy writing from the perspective of the main canon character, and I've not written any Sharpe in a long, long time.
