WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 11 - Tuesday

How do you feel about your writing today? Is it going great? Would you rather not talk about it?

For today's discussion-- We all have favorite characters and characters we don't much like. Do any of you have characters you simply can't write at all? They don't have to be characters you dislike, just characters you somehow can't make work in a story.

For me, it's a character named Farfarello from Weiss Kreuz. I can't wrap my head around him and so can't write him. He makes a brief appearance in one of my fics. That was hard, and I didn't have him do much. I deliberately wrote him out of my epic WIP because I couldn't figure out what he'd be doing.

I finally started my yuletide!!! 357 words and I know where I'm going with it!! I'm really pleased with today.

There are a few characters I can't make work, and it's not because I don't like them. It's mostly a case of I just can't seem to capture them properly regardless of how they sound in my head, though in at least one case it's because whilst I like the character, I don't miss him when he's not there.

I suppose I could push myself to write certain characters, and it would improve me as a writer. I believe I have the skill and the drive to force myself to get into the head of a character I dislike, or to restructure a character that I believe doesn't work on a fundamental level. Then again, these are typically characters that receive more than enough attention in fandom. Do I really need to add my Draco fic to the millions that already exist? Why not write about characters I love, which are often neglected? And that also carries its own challenges.

Took a break yesterday, partially because i felt drained ... but I did plot a bit ahead on my fanfic, so maybe I get something done today.


I sometimes have problems writing out character's thoughts - if I cannot do it at all, I just will try to stay out of their head.

Yesterday I wrote/edited/posted the last two chapters of "A Friend In Need" (Knight Rider, Michael/KITT, definitely NC-17), which is a relief because the story was really demanding to be finished. Whew!

And I've never met a character I couldn't manage to write. Sad, but true. (Whether I write them well or not is a whole different story.)
