What are your strategies for improving your writing skills? Do you just get better with each story or do you take steps to ensure you learn something new?

I keep thinking I'm going to get some writing in, but I don't. And I don't have work to blame for being too busy now, either. I am getting ready for the holidays, though, so I guess that's a good enough reason to not get around to writing. I really must try to make writing a part of my day on Saturday, or I'm going to feel the crunch at the end of the month when my Yule fic is due!

I read writing hints and writing blogs from time to time to help me improve, but I have the sense that my writing improves the more I am able to write.
