I hope writing is going well for all of you!
As for today:
Did you write?
Edit?
Research?
Plan?
Send to beta?
Take a break?
Deal with other life things?
How do you feel about your writing today?
Today's discussion topic-- How do you start writing? This can either apply to starting a new story or to starting a new writing session. Both can be difficult for people.
I'm posting this on the go and am about to leave, so I won't discuss the topic today. Maybe I'll come back later and post a comment.

Date: Friday, January 18th, 2013 22:33 (UTC)I was working on a fic for Kink Bingo, which had a few scenes all set far apart so I've started working on filling in the gaps. Some of it felt like filler, but I was just happy to make the progress! And the next sprint I did gave me better results so it worked out.
Starting writing is easy for me when I have an opening sentence in mind, sometimes they just come to me and I can write thousands of words without stopping. Picking up on a WIP I've had that happen with but run out of steam on can be tough. It's the ideas I like, the following through on them, not so much XD

Date: Friday, January 18th, 2013 23:01 (UTC)Sometimes I have a line of dialogue that I really want to use but can't fit it in to anything I may be working on and other times I have an idea that I want to play with. The fic I'm working on now is actually an old idea that's stalled a few times in the past because I've not quite got the approach right and this time it's working out fairly well.

Date: Saturday, January 19th, 2013 13:47 (UTC)For getting new projects started, I'm a shameless magpie. A lot of story ideas start with me watching canon (or reading fanfic) and loving one of the details or concepts so much I want to play with it myself, or alternately hating something so much that I want to fix it.
My two current epics both started out of annoyance with fanon. I hate the idea that Star Trek's Reboot!Kirk is exactly the same as TOS!Kirk, when they've had vastly different childhoods and young adulthoods, so I want to write a story about how the differences between universes affect their lives; and I started the Harry Potter timetravel story because there's no way that an in-character recklessly-heroic-and-impulsive Harry would go back in time and then not change anything.

Date: Saturday, January 19th, 2013 14:14 (UTC)Lately I start writing by just sitting down and forcing myself to start. It works strangely enough. (At least for now)

3. Not much but a bit.
4. All planning happens in my mind.
5. I'm not bothering with betas until I graduate university and have time to really be involved with my hobbies. Otherwise I just can't do it.
6. Not really, I've been in a writing mode the last few days.
7. Oh of course, always.
8. I feel pretty good that I've been writing fanfiction at all, given that I've been trying and failing to get back into it for months. The only downside is - unfortunately - I'm not writing the fanfiction I've been meaning to finish for like... two years. But given my eye problems and general depression I decided if I wanted to write anything - even if it was in the wrong fandom and had nothing to do with the other story - I was going to go for it.
9. Apparently my style is to get so enraged about something I can't ignore it anymore, and then that leads to a storyline to hopefully fix what is enraging me. Unfortunately this is bad for my pacing - I'll go through 5k in a day until the story's done and not have sufficiently edited it or checked it, etc. And then when it's done I often don't fix it. But kinda another "after I graduate" mantra when I have time to feel energized about hobbies again.
