WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 20 -- Sunday

Welcome to a new week!  I'mlinaewen and I'll be checking in with you this week to see how you all are doing with your works in progress and other writing goals -- and hopefully keep myself on track in the bargain!

Discussion question: We're now three weeks into the new year.  Did any of you make New Year's resolutions that involve writing?  If so, what are they?  What is your plan of action for achieving those goals?

It's too early in the day for me to have accomplished anything as yet, but I'm determined to get somewhere with my fic today. I've had a lot of opportunities to write this weekend, but I've just wasted them by being undisciplined. ;-) Hopefully I'll have a better update to report later in the day.

In five words or less -- I'm so easily distracted!

It is my intention this new year to do better at writing every day. This will involve disciplining myself to actually open my fic to work on it, rather than taking the easy way out when I am tired by playing a game to relax or surfing the net or watching a movie when I have free time. Other goals I have made involve establishing better boundaries (my work is such that it is very easy to take on extra projects and I tend to do so, thus overburdening myself and not having enough time for everything) -- being successful with this will naturally affect my writing, as I will have more time to allot to it as I take on fewer projects.

I have tried the method of writing a certain number of words per day and that doesn't seem to work for me, so I think I will try spending a specific amount of time each day writing to get in the habit. It doesn't usually take much to get me going with my writing, but I do have to start in the first place, and that's what I'm trying to be better at.

Today is excellent so far, and I've spent more than 90 minutes on my fic. This morning I picked up the chapter I was working on for most of last night and carried on with it.

Five words or less: quite happy so far :)

I tend not to make any resolutions at New Year because I'm more motivated when I decide that I need/want/have to do something. The only goal I have the now is to finish the first draft of Twice Unjust and get it into beta, with the fandom (Taggart) been small I don't expect canon knowledge. As of this morning I only have 3 & 1/2 chapters to write, so it is doable :)

I've written today. That almost never happens on a weekend, but this time, I opened the document and started typing. Giving myself permission to work on a different fragment of the story seems to have worked. I'm not sure how many words I've managed, two or three hundred, I think. With luck, there'll be more, probably after my daughter's basketball game.

I've managed about an hour of writing so far. I'm pleased about that.

I don't tend to make New Year's resolutions. I started the new year wanting to write some Chronicles of Narnia fics. I don't think I'm going to manage as many as I hoped for, but I'll manage at least one. I'll just keep writing and see where I end up.

My New Year's resolution is to finish what I sign up for. It remains to see if I can succeed.
