Harry Potter: the HP Wiki and the HP Lexicon.
Star Trek: Memory Alpha, for definitely-canon Film & TV details and Memory Beta, for not-quite-canon details from spin-offs, books and games.
And for general research, I like these comms on LJ: fanfic_med (medical and injury advice), military_beta (for current and historical military details), and little_details (for everything).
