Monday, usually the day most hated in the week ...
So, did you ...
... write something?
... thought about anything related to your stories?
... planned?
... sent something off to the beta?
... posted a story?
... dealt with real life issues?
How do you draw the line between inspiration and procrastination? Like you want to write and re-watch/read stuff for your fandoms and suddenly you are more watching for watching for watching, than watching for inspiration or maybe research?

Question of the Day
How do you draw the line between inspiration and procrastination? Like you want to write and re-watch/read stuff for your fandoms and suddenly you are more watching for watching for watching, than watching for inspiration or maybe research?

Date: Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 00:59 (UTC)I tend to keep canon review for when I need to refresh myself on details. I watch or read and take notes. It helps if I've got a focus of some sort, usually a character or prompt. Not reviewing canon has bitten me once or twice, so I try to be sure I do it for any fandom other than Weiss Kreuz (and I really ought to review Weiss. It's been a long time).
My procrastination downfall is new books and DVDs. There's always something new from the library or from Netflix (and I don't want to talk about the stuff I've bought and haven't yet read).

Date: Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 11:52 (UTC)When I was on my twitter earlier, LifeSigns asked me to share an article I wrote 2 years about self harm for awareness day next month, and to write and updated version of it too. The updated article is something to focus on for a few days, and maybe writing something that isn't a fic will help.
It always depends on the source I'm wanting to work with, sometimes I have to watch for the sake it if I've not played in the fandom for a while, and other times I just need the odd quote or moment between the characters for reference. As I don't own a TV I can't always be bothered to keep a DVD playing on my laptop, it's the same with the shows I download.

Date: Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 15:32 (UTC)My procrastination quirk is research. The research inspires me and is necessary for the details I like to include or at least have as a foundation for the story, but if I'm feeling the least bit unprepared to actually write, I'll go off and do more research. I do love research, so sometimes I think it becomes research for the sake of research -- though I always have something beneficial come out of it for writing when I finally tear myself away!

Date: Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 18:11 (UTC)I think my research can be procrastination, but it can also be inspirational, so I'm not sure how to balance that.
Except to start the day with writing, and only do the research when I run out of writing energy and ideas. You know, leaving questions in the draft I'm writing -- [NOTE: Check canon for this detail!] -- and then continuing with the writing. Because if I stop to check a detail, I'll waste writing time and lose track of where I was in the story.
