Oops! I almost forgot to put this up. Sorry for the delay.

How's the writing going today? I haven't done anything but think about my stories and nap a bit. I still have hope that I'll write later.

Did you:

Write?
Edit?
Send to beta?
Post?
Think about your story?
Do something else?
Take a rest?

Today's discussion question: When you write, do you need silence or do you prefer background noise? What about music? Is it helpful or distracting? Are there certain types of music that work for you?

I like having music as background noise. Sometimes, I even sing along as I write. It works better if it's stuff I know really well and don't have to think about. I have playlists in iTunes for two of my long WIP. Sometimes, I like to have a DVD going in the background, but that can be iffy. It can't be something that I need to give much attention to. My best luck in that direction was with the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes episodes.

Wednesday I posted.

I can't write with background music, because I like being an active listener to music and I can't listen and write at the same time. I'm pretty much a set of eyes on the screen and fingers on the keyboard when I write. Any sort of ambient background noise doesn't bother me as long as I'm not actually expected to pay attention to it. Otoh, when I do listen to music it can often put me in a creative groove and give me ideas for new stories or ways to work out the roadblocks in existing ones.
