It's the start of another week. I'm
the_rck, and I'll be doing the check-in entries this week. This is my first time doing a poll, so please excuse it if it looks funny or isn't quite right.
How's the writing going?
For discussion today-- Religion is a powerful force for many people. Do you ever use religion or religious themes in your writing? It could be anything from making a particular character a believer (or unbeliever) in something to writing about what the god or gods are in a particular setting.
I've mainly used religion when writing The Chronicles of Narnia. Religion and God are important to the canon. It's possible to write stories set there without addressing religious themes, but I find doing so difficult. I have the impression that portrayals of Aslan and morality have the potential to be controversial in certain corners of the fandom. Religion figured a bit in the story I wrote crossing Doctor Who with Zenna Henderson's People stories. I don't think any of my other stories have had religion as a factor.

Date: Sunday, March 10th, 2013 18:47 (UTC)I'm pretty frustrated at being stuck on two WIPs, one of which hasn't been updated in about a month. At least I think I know what the problem is, which is better than meandering blindly for twenty chapters. Not that I haven't done exactly that in the past. Of course.
On the other hand I'm doing a bunch of fanfic reading. For, uh, research.

Date: Sunday, March 10th, 2013 20:12 (UTC)I've not used religion too much in my fic, if at all. When I do use a particular belief or practise it's because it was mentioned in canon or I want to explore something that I haven't before.

Date: Sunday, March 10th, 2013 21:00 (UTC)I have one WIP I'm working on where faith in God is an element, in particular with several of my original characters, but it's not a huge factor at this point; just something in their characters that makes them who they are. It may become more important later -- I'm not sure yet!
