It's the middle of the week. I'm starting to get a feel for the shape of the week. It's not looking good for writing, unfortunately. How about you?

Today's discussion question is related to yesterday's. What's the shortest thing you've ever written? How do you feel about writing at that length? What worked and what didn't?

The shortest thing I've written came in at 211 words. It was a real challenge writing that short. It's not natural for me. I felt like I was giving just the barest breath of a story and not something entire in itself. I mean, if it had needed to be longer, I'd have written it that way. It just didn't feel quite natural. Then again, I think, in this case the brevity works. It's a grim little thing.

39 words is my shortest, it was for a reverse drabble challenge. I didn't like it all that much, it didn't feel right to be writing and posting so little. The only thing that worked was the pairing I used for it.

Going to do a little editing before I go to bed, maybe use something from the commute this morning for a ficlet - my 25 minute journey took almost 2 hours.

The shorter pieces came easier for me when I was starting out in fanfic. I did numerous 100-word drabbles. Even shorter, though, was the one sentence fiction challenge, which prompted me to write 50 different pieces only one sentence long. The smallest was about 10 words, I believe. I agree that the smaller pieces usually feel more like snippets rather than whole stories, but it's always fun to see what you can pack into something so small.

I'm not getting much done due to some health issues, so I'm basically resting. Starting to worry about whether I'll get anything accomplished with the numerous writing projects I had planned for the month! If I'm careful about how I plan, I might be able to reserve the weekend for myself and see some writing done.

I think the shortest thing I wrote was a drabble of 100 words. It turned out pretty well in the end, but I hated it being limited like that. There was so much more I wanted to say! I also did something that was 110 words for a challenge where the word count number was assigned, and I actually found that a bit easier, but still limiting. I've been doing a lot more shorter pieces lately since my long ones are proving difficult to write, so I feel I'm getting better at the short ones, but they do seem to be limiting!
