Sorry about missing the post yesterday, stupid migraine plus some other issues ... not that I am feeling much better today.

Did you ...

.... write
... plan
... edited
... thought

... (about) your fanfic?

If you have a beta, did you ..

... hear back from them?
... sent them a new chapter or part?
... implemented their tips?

Or maybe you ...

... were distracted by real life (events, moods, etc ...)

Friday's Discussion Topic: POV - Mixed POV

Have you ever mixed up your POV?

Examples: In an older fanfic, I write from first person for my OC, then third person for the canon characters.
or: Mostly writing from limited third person but still including extra information.

Yesterday, I did a very little writing. I'm kind of stuck, and I sent the chapter to one of my beta readers to see if they have any ideas of how to get the chapter unstuck. I did no writing today as I had three kids running around all day plus a family visit for egg coloring. Monday will be equally bad (same three kids). I don't know about the weekend. Weekends in general aren't a good time for me to write. Well, Sunday will likely be no writing. We have family obligations.

I've never mixed POV in the way you seem to mean. I do different scenes from the point of view of different characters, but I nearly always use third person limited. If I use first person, I stick with that point of view throughout the piece. No, I take that back. I have one thing that's just fragments on my hard drive, and some of it's in third person, and some is in first. I just haven't touched that one in more than ten years.

I've not done anything writing related. We'll see if I get some time this weekend to make some progress.

I tend to use a variable third person POV where the main character of the particular scene I'm dealing with is the one with the POV. I use breaks in the narrative to show that the POV is changing. I'm not sure how orthodox it is, but it works for me, and no one has complained as yet!

I'm working on mixed POV right now. Because the story deals in mythmaking, folklore and storytelling, the prologue is told by a nameless, semi-omniscient narrator, and then the first chapter switches to the first person POV of someone who experienced the actual events in question. It's... challenging.

I finished the first draft of something that I started over two years ago. Got a lot of editing and rework to do but wow, it feels so good to have a complete draft.

My early fanfic was mixed POV - it's not something I do any more and I'm not quite sure why. It was all close third person, but changing that person between sections.
