Hi. I'm The RCK, and I'll be doing check in posts this week. I'm coming off a week of getting very little done. I need to learn to write while my daughter's around. Summer's coming up, after all, and she'll be around most of the time.
Today's discussion question-- Do you have any bulletproof plot kinks? If so, can you write them or do you have difficulty getting the right distance from the story to manage it?
I'm not sure I have anything bulletproof any more. I'm not reading nearly as much as I used to, at least not as much fic (I'm reading more books). I think the closest I come is time travel stories, the kind that loop back from some point in the future into the middle of canon (or a bit before the start of canon). I've never tried to write one myself. I'm not sure there's a canon I know well enough to play with that way.

Date: Sunday, April 7th, 2013 22:35 (UTC)I know I have lots of them, but it's always hard to remember what they are when I'm not reading them.
Definitely anything that handles cross-cultural misunderstandings/mistranslations/differences (hence my current love affair with Homestuck, and lots of sci-fi novels, especially C.J. Cherryh). Relatedly, my number one pet peeve might be "aliens" (or other nonhumans) that fail to differ from humans in any significant way.

Date: Monday, April 8th, 2013 10:38 (UTC)My most common bulletproof kink is the working together all the time, especially one calling the other by the surname or title, and slowly falling in love without properly realising it. The moment where they start calling each other by their first name gets me every time. I have had great fun playing with that moment for one of my canons.
