Today's discussion topic:

[HAS REALLY INTENSE, DRAMATIC FIC IDEA (Fanfic Flamingo) CAN’T WRITE IT BECAUSE THE FIRST CHAPTER IS SO BORING]

When you are writing do you often struggle to get past the 'boring' parts, or make them less boring? Do you have any tricks that help?

Generally, if the start of a story seems boring, I assume that I've started it in the wrong place and try again. So far, that's worked. I tend to figure that I can backfill whatever introductory exposition I was thinking of. Writing fanfic helps because it generally needs less set up than original fic because readers already know the characters and the setting and such.

Spend the first half of my day, doing fun sprints, finished editing chapter 7 of my long story and then finished writing chapter 2 of my short pwp story. :D

Hope tonight is equally successful!

First chapters are never the boring ones, if at all I doubt myself in the first third, wondering if others find the exposition as interesting as I do :D

Spent a good hour with a long-neglected WIP, reading the whole thing as far as it goes, editing it a bit and adding a small amount of new stuff. Then I made some new notes and started some new writing. Didn't get very far before I needed to do some research, which involved watching video -- a dangerous thing to do! Ended up not being able to stop watching! However, it was very enjoyable, and I did find what I needed to keep going tomorrow.

One of the drabbles I wrote earlier in the week got unexpectedly bigger, becoming a one shot instead and I finished it yesterday, just need to double check something from canon and give it a quick edit before I post it. I wanted to post today but it's too messy just now.

For the boring parts I remind myself that what is boring to me may not be to my readers. I do try to keep the boring parts to a minimum and a lot of what makes it in to the final version of fic is often a lot different to what is in my notebook.

Wrote about two hundred words. Not that productive, but at least I'm writing!

I always get stuck at the boring bits. Usually they end up not-boring, but when I don't have a particular scene stuck in my mind, it's hard to write things out.
