Today's discussion question-- Do you write linearly or do you jump around, writing a scene here and a scene there? Which method works best for you?

I prefer to write linearly. I usually discover a lot along the way. The one exception is that I've already written a draft of the last chapter of my epic WIP, Rheotaxis. I wanted to know what I was aiming for (and to convince myself that I had an end in sight).

No writing today for me.

I write linearly, most definitely. If I get an idea for something that happens at a later point, I may write it up as part of the notes, but not in detail. I do have an almost final chapter written for a couple of my WIPs that are giving me incentive to get to them, but they are the exception rather than the rule. I'm very chronologically oriented so linear is what I like!

Another day of doing nothing. Arg. I think today might be a bit better though as I've set aside some time later on to just let my brain wander and hopefully write.

I tend to be linear myself. The only real time I've jumped about is when I've had bother with a scene and I can clearly see the next scene. I find sometimes that helps me work out what is wrong with the scene but I don't do it too often.
