Sorry to be posting this so late. I lost track of time (I have a reminder set to go off at 10 a.m., my time zone, but I get distracted). At least, it's still Monday here.

Today's discussion question: What point of view do you like to use? Do you ever experiment? Do you ever get to a point in a story and realize that what comes next needs to come from a different character's point of view?

I play with first person and third person limited. I don't think I could pull off second person, and I find third person omniscient difficult because I like being grounded in one specific point of view. I have, though, sometimes found that the story I'm writing won't work from the point of view I started in. Then I need to switch to a different character or go from third to first or otherwise change things.

::laughing:: I'll try any POV if I think it'll make a good story. I've done second only a few times, though. Once worked gorgeously (for a dream; I think that made all the difference), but another time not as well. And 3rd person omniscient can make for a good story if done well, but it's so rarely published these days it's hard to find an example of it done well. (My opinion, obviously. Others may vary.)

3rd person limited except for the ocassional experiment.Mostly if I'm struggling it would be to do with finding that character's voice or getting the information balance right for the plot. But I try to stick with it once I've started.

I'll usually stick to third person narrative, but I did do a first person POV with a co - writer years back. It's hard work to get it right, but absolutely rewarding when you can pull it off.

175 words! Most I've written in ages!

I tend to stick to third person limited as I find it easiest but I have been branching out onto omniscient a little lately. Not always best for the fic but I like the experiment.

I'm moving on from some finished writing to the next thing, so I'm back in the thinking/planning/research stage. But I feel like I'll be ready to write words at some point today, so that's exciting!

I once wrote a fairly long piece that was third person limited from the POV of a single character, which was annoying because I kept wanting to include things the character wouldn't actually know! But I managed it. I have also used first person a few times when I wanted to create a special effect with the story. For the most part, however, I use third person omniscient from multiple points of view -- I switch between different characters' points of view in different sections or chapters as needed.
